Perhaps we should move away from the culture of being offended by anything & everything.sad

Tony

Its the culture of being 'offended on someone else's behalf' most of the time.

Do I now have to refer to a flat digging implement as opposed to a Spade?

I always hope that if I ignore it long enough it'll go away.

Giving it the attention it's receiving here only encourages it.

You have to keep gardening stuff out of it or you can't riddle or hoe or it goes against the grain to sow oats let alone turning the sod over or bedding anything.. for fork's sake's. I had a nice pear, a couple of plums and picked my melons this year...

VIZ was very good at lampooning this sort of posturing "wokeness" scrawled in the OP's link. Millie Tant would have been proud of this bunch of prats.

There were only two shops in Oxford that sold VIZ when I started buying it, both specialist comic shops. I had quite a big collection of the early ones that disappeared when we moved office at work. A few of us in the office loved it but some really weren’t keen.

This is not a new thing. Best part of 20 years ago we were told at work to stop referring to computer hard disks as master and slave. Some of my then colleagues in North Carolina would have been descendents of slaves. They didn't believe it would make any difference to race relations.

Thanks for that... I only knew about the egg & spoon, three legged and wheelbarrow!

How right they were!

So how are we going to parallel several AC gensets now?

And heaven help anyone building a Radial aero engine. They will never know which con rod takes precedence.

Probably, this will cause offence to someone, if only because of the colour (OH DEAR! Sorry to mention that ) of the characters in the text!

Gender neutral threads next, I should think. Can't have 'em male and female.

Avoid transgender fixings at all cost! (If I mention failure by stripping that will upset someone, somewhere )

That sounded like a very long time ago, until I stopped to think about it and then it wasn't very long ago at all...

A car body is fitted with slave bars to process it through the paint shop, the term paint bars was being promoted when I retired 4 years ago. Somehow I don’t connect a steel framework with the despicable trade in human lives. Many words in the English language have multiple uses and anyone who is offended by the proper use of a word should go back to school rather than flaunt their ignorance.

A long time ago, probably 25 years, my then boss referred to a shovel as a "..hand operated earth moving implement" So they walk amongst us.

In a similar vein and not wishing to upset anyone, in my experience software engineers are the cause of most problems in the modern "connected" world. But I may be wrong, I have been told that I'm a biased. bigoted old barsteward.

cheers

Bill

It is getting beyond a joke, especially since the most vituperative accusations of causing offence seem to be on behalf of third--parties these critics have probably never asked.

However I am a little worried by Steve Neighbour wishing to feed his sheep with his grand-children, for as far as I am aware and other views are available, it is certainly PC for them to be of confused polarity or simply dielectric, but it is considered Non-U if not actually Non-PC to feed others' offspring to animals that are not only farmed, but also vegan....
