Thread: Cutting Carbon Fibre
03/04/2022 10:16:09

Thanks for the suggestions.

The baton is tapered and is 3.8mm at the break point. Normally the only stress it encounters is being wafted through thin air!

I'm going to try the Dremel idea of Jason's, then ally welding rod and araldite.

I may post the result later if its not too shameful.

Thank you Clive, i hadn't considered grinding it.

A friend of mine is a Band Leader and has snapped his conductor's baton. He has asked if i can repair it as it was a gift from his good Lady.

As you can see in the photo the break is not clean. my idea is to cut it clean and insert a metal rod (its hollow) and bond it back together.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions as to how to get a clean cut through Carbon Fibre?

Thanks in advance

Thread: Smart meter
22/01/2022 10:10:44

I have smart meters for gas and electricity. My supplier is (after Peoples Energy went bust), British Gas.

To be honest I cant see any downside. I can see a graphical representation of how much energy I'm using at any given time. This can help if you save money by prompting you to check what you have left switched on inadvertently. We had an electric heater in our conservatory that our cleaner had switched on by mistake. It was apparent that something was amiss and, as we don't use the conservatory in winter, could have been left on for weeks!

With reference to the energy companies using variable tariffs, I'm not sure that the meters are 'Smart' enough. On the British Gas meter, the sampling rate can be set to 30 mins, daily or monthly. This, I think, makes it a pretty blunt tool from a monitoring point of view.

Thread: Link to Arc and Chronos sites errors

Arc's website doesn't seem to give the option of rejecting cookies, so I won't be going there any time soon. Pity really as I've bought stuff from them before

If you are making a purchase from a site it has to use cookies to 'maintain state' ie to pass you from one page to another through the purchasing process.

Cookies are not necessarily bad. Third party cookies are not desirable and can be blocked in your browser settings.

Paul,

Both links work with no problems for me using Firefox 89.0.2 64-bit on Windows 10. Maybe something in your set up.

John

Hmm if i use a VPN then i don't get the error which would suggest my ISP is interfering with the secure connection.

Thanks for the info John.
