It's not just the watch itself that is in bad taste. Romain Jerome used to have a big Titanic DNA poster up in Geneva airport that said something along the lines of "Celebrating the loss of the Titanic". Presumably they meant commemorating but a little more thought mightn't have gone amiss

Interesting that a £12,000 watch is offered with "Economy" delivery!

The thing with watches these days is that you are likely to get something pretty much as accurate from the local £ shop! ( And, looking at those featured here, probably in better taste!)

Perhaps that would be a good challenge for us lot. I don't pretend to be up to watchmaking, but I rather like the idea of making tasteful watch case for a reasonable movement.

A bit like 'making' pens.

Neil, I agree with your comment on pens, but you have to agree that there is a lot more work in making a watch case.

In fact it has given me an idea, I have a really nice Swiss watch with a really crappy case. I wonder if I could do something with it?

Neil,

Although you probably had a wristwatch in mind; the video here is a joy.

Edit: I just found this page; which has some useful drawings of the Smiths Military wristwatch case ... Should give you a good idea of what's involved.

I wonder what reward Edmund Hilary got for that endorsement? And I wonder if it had the same level of spurious authenticity as Chris Bonnington's 'How that beefy taste cheered us'?

And there I was thinking what could be interesting about a " lump of skanky old metal" ..."........You have a ready supply of fashion models available ??? - good grief man why are you wasting your time in the workshop!

I am not as young as I was. wink

Besides I have to have some sanity in my life away from the nut-nut conversations that seem to dominate their lives.!

I live with one and when others call I am invariably left punch drunk with mental exhaustion. They communicate with each other at machine gun burst speeds (all at the same time) I am also convinced that it is in a different language and an encrypted code impossible for anyone with male genes to decipher. indecision

Workshop is a stable enclave of harmony, tranquility and peace. smiley

I have gone back to look at your bit of rusty plate but there seems to be a person in front of it. I have studied it closely but still can't make out the detail. Will have another look later.
