![]() 544 forum posts 8 photos | I prefer Paper versions ... you can read them anywhere. One other point .... I have some paper issues of ME that are over 50 years old ... If we have digital only (or part digital) articles, will they still be available in 10/20 years time, let alone 50? .... I very much doubt it, so the archives will be full of partial articles! or worse still, nothing at all. (We are seeing the same with family photographs ... when the owner dies they just get deleted and are lost forever)

![]() 19226 forum posts 749 photos 86 articles | I agree the magazine has to be the 'core product', but if an author has the capability to export a 3D model of a complex part to an interactive PDF, than I can see that would be great additional information. It would also be good to see video of some of the models in ME in action. Most authors appear happy that supporting material that would otherwise go unused (e.g. materials lists, spreadsheets) go online gratis. Obviously if we went for something more ambitious I would have to negotiate this with the author. I do have a small budget for online-only articles, but little used so far. Neil

Hi John, don't you mean the advertisers were clamouring for more channels to increase their revenue, I have never heard a viewer say anything other than there are too many, with the concomitant result of lack of quality as any quality there maybe is now spread too thin. Jaundiced view, I think not. Thank goodness we now have Youtube and the likes of Tom Lipton(oxtoolco) James Kilroy, Keith Fenner , April Wilkerson et al. chriStephens |

7227 forum posts 21 photos | Since I am not expecting to build a Stepperhead, or to go CNC, very little, or no, time is spent reading the articles. However, other articles, whether making devices, or refurbishing machines and the like do contain items of interest, and the info can be filed, literally, or mentally, for future use. One day, these things do come in handy, as a means of solving an immediate problem, or , directly or tangentially. You will never please all the people all the time, and if the content departs too far from your interest, it makes sense to leave, albeit reluctantly. My Amateur Photographer subscription lapsed because of the increasing emphasis on Photoshop. So in some respects, I have lost out., but not enough to cause renewal. The same will go for our magazines. Not being a loco builder, no M.E. sub; and E.I.M sometimes gets close to the cliff edge! There is a VAST amount of experience and expertise in various fields, displayed in the magazines, and on these forum threads, which I enjoy, and from which I learn. So take the rough with the smooth, and benefit! Howard |

83 forum posts 20 photos | Hi Gents I've been digital for some time now and would like to hi-light , read them anywhere is acheived with a laptop so the pile of mags is only 1" thick and will always weigh the same the wheat from the chaff can be printed or (saved as) be fitting your software skills I've started my own 'Best of Folder'. I need not use a magnifier the zoom in on mag reader/viewer will far exceed my dodgy eyesight, I can sit and read with a cuppa and bacon sarny, when on hols or away from home can get the new release without waiting, Need I say more Rufus Just as a note how many of the readers still do not use any electronic aides to support thier craft/pleasure like (CNC, DROs, Powered tables, Screw cutting gear boxes, etc ) at what point does tech stuff become the demons seed. |

I've been digital for some time now and would like to hi-light ....... more The underlying assumption being that the reader already has a laptop/iPad to read the magazines "anywhere" on. (It would hardly be economic to purchase such a device simply to read the digital edition of MEW/ME) |

344 forum posts | Just recently taken a sub for MEW and first copy came today, nice mix of articles. Don't take ME as it seems nearly all about locos in which I have zero interest. "Just as a note how many of the readers still do not use any electronic aides to support thier craft/pleasure like (CNC, DROs, Powered tables, Screw cutting gear boxes, etc ) at what point does tech stuff become the demons seed." I only use the screw cutting nothing else. Od school Roger |

Even so those who haven't read it for a few years should be aware that Diane is working very hard to make sure the steam loco content is healthily balanced by other subjects. Neil |
