Hi Tom.
You are corect the box contains oil and 3 pipes go from the bottom and go to the crank bearings, if I remember correctly I put string in the pipes to act as wicks. This how I made my suction/discharge hoses:
I length of plastic tube ( car windscreen washer type) slide a rod of steel/brass down the bore. mounted on the lathe, one end in chuck other supported by a tailstock centre then set the lathe to say 8 tpi screw cutting then as if winding a spring wrap a thin wire along the length of the tube remove from the lathe cover with white heat shrink sleeving and heat using a hot air gun. The end result looks really good with the wire looking like the ribs of the hoses. Hope that makes sense? If not I will try again.
Do you have a copy of the build article from Model Engineer mag? If not I have scans of them & could put them on disc for you.
There are some photos's of mine in my album

JasonB. Thanks for that , you calling one a "curved cylinder" allowed me to search on that & came up with M' A de Polignac's curved cylinder engine , the plans & castings were available from Poly Engineering & was featured in EIM June 1995-Dec 1995. ( any one prepared to scan this article? ) I think the one I have is just built from the plans as the frames are brass not steel as provided by Polly
Mick. You are correct, it was the beam engine I wanted. |

I recently purchased these four stationary engine models, I had to buy all four to get the one I wanted. They are all extremely well built by the same person. There are no names on them & apear to be built from bar stock apart from the fly wheels. They all ran first time on air with no attention to them apart from oiling.. I'm hoping you can identify them.
There are more photo's in my stationary engine Album.
Thank you |

Jeff. A fine looking Shand Mason.. I know what you mean about about building it, mine very nearly got put under the bench on several occasions !! ( some photo's in my Album.) I made the hoses out off plastic tube ( car screen washer type) by putting a length of mild steel bar down the centre, put it in the lathe chuck, set screw cutting to 8 tpi & wrap thin wire around the outside & then remove from lathe, cover with white heat shrink sleeving and shrink it down with hot air gun. Gives a very good effect of the ribbed hoses. Not my idea just what I found on the internet. Edited By ian j on 23/01/2017 08:36:31 |

Having replaced the four 4 foot double florescent light fittings in my workshop with LED fittings I'm very impressed with the difference in brightness. BUT the down side of them is there's no heat from them, with the old fittings after a couple of hours in the work shop it got quite snug.So the electricity I'm saving on lighting goes on heating !! |
