Pop up

112 forum posts 8 photos | I'm not sure if this is the correct place to raise this issue , but here goes, I use Chrome as a browser and run win 7 I get an annoying flashing pop up that offers to scan(sic) my PC . this appears on the right hand side of the screen and masks what I assume are legitimate advertisements for thing I might want, given I am on a model engineering web site. This cretinous and unwelcome intrusion opens afurther un bidden window at the bottom of the page that declares that updates are required. this is mendacious crap. I accept that advertising is necessary to fund the site, but if this drivel is authorised i am sorry if not please remove it with extreme prejudice. I should add that neither malware bytes or Norton anti virus show any problem. best regards Paul Barter

112 forum posts 8 photos | Hi David, Hi Neil, Thanks for your suggestions, I too have not seen this using firefox 26, it seems to be chrome that is affected. I am very aware of the risks in downloading "free" software, even in the happy clappy world of the www there are no free lunches. I am going to remove and reinstall chrome to see if that effects a cure.
Thanks again guys regards Paul |

With respect Paul, you have unwanted "adware" on your computer and frankly, if you are using Norton, I am not surprised. It is your computer that is "infested". For the record, Norton does not flag up any malware, only virus problems (if it can manage to find any that is!). Download Malwarebytes from HERE install it and run lt. graham. |

940 forum posts 30 photos | Hi Paul I also use Google Chrome with Wndows 7, but like others, without the problems you are having. I use, as Oompa Lumpa AKA Graham suggests, Malwarebytes in addition to my standard security program, F-Secure, as it also detects PUPS (Probably Unwanted Programs/Software) and frequently enables effective deletion of the offending software. This free software does not affect the running of standard security software progs as it is a stand alone and on demand prog which gives a second line of defence. Much of this unwanted software is included with what appears to be genuine progs and frequently includes extensions to your browser which you have to opt out of if you don't want them installed automatically, it can be a real PITA at times. If you have already run Malwarebytes then please ignore my reference to it. Cheers Martin PS If this post is confused then blame it on too much Vin Rouge prior to posting Edited By Martin W on 11/01/2014 02:10:34 Edited By Martin W on 11/01/2014 02:17:18 |
