Hi all,

I have decided that I need a Backstop for my Milling vice and some time ago saw a great design by Bogstandard on MadModder. however the pictures have now disappeared from the thread on there and HMEM. I was hoping that perhaps someone had saved a copy of one or two of the pictures. If so I would be very grateful to look at a copy, preferably via email if John doesn't mind. I respect the fact that he has removed them from the public domain so perhaps he would not like them to appear here.

If you do mind them being viewed, even privately John please say so and I will respect that wish as well.

Regards

Terry

Terry, John is not too well at the moment, but i know he would not mind if anyone posted his pics as long as he received the credit for them. I think they dissapeard from the other sites due to lots of strange updates to "photobucket", lots of other pics have gone for the same reason !!!

Cheers Derek.

Terry he has been reposting some of his projects on MEM but the vice stop is not one of them, this thread shows it in use, basically a more rounded version of Gray's

I can't pick up his photobucket albums now as he has gone Pro. The reason the images were removed is because of a change of ownership and policy on HMEM.

He was posting a couple of days ago and I exchanged a few e-mails with him the other week, though he does have a different reason from the one mentioned above that is keeping him out of the workshop and off the forums.

I made up one of these a while ago and it works well, vice can close down to 1/16"

I am sure we can get Bogs to re-post it on MEM.

Jason: No, that reason is not keeping him out the workshop any more, rather it looks like it will be helping towards an increased output. wink 2

Just a thought but if you have a dividing head tailstock it might be at a sutable height to position such that it can carry out this function. Also a spin indexer might do.

Jason & Jo, I am well aware of the main reason John is not spending too much time on ME matters at the moment, However as i live about 1 mile from John and swop bits and pieces as well as info, as of last night Johns back WAS giving him problems. So please do'nt imply that i am telling fibs.

Cheers Derek.

Hi Guys
Looking at Gray's backstop . Its similar to mine . but I have fitted an adjustable collar on the sliding stop . So if I am machining a profile out side the vice say the end of a component i can slide the stop out of the way . after removing the job for the next operation you can slide the stop back to the collar stop and machine the next one . Useful for profiling on CNC machines where the job is longer than the vice jaws & of course can be used fixed . I can post a photo if anybody is interested .
By the way I am retired now with no CNC machines

Thanks for the input Stew, I assumed that it was either a problem with the link or my browswer. I'll certainly try again later,

Best regards

Stew: Ade was talking about moving MEM to a virtual server as the old server harware had a number of occasions that it needed a hard reset. If he has that might account for the "database error" message as the software will need tweeking for the new environment.

Derek: I was not aware that either Jason or I were implying in any way that you were telling fibs. As for what both Jason and I were implying by our comments, I for one am very pleased for John, he is a very lucky chap and he has my best wishes for the future.

I have contacted John about reposting the article on MEM.
