Following an email from Wolfie, one of our members, which had some suggestions for the organisation of this website, I have reorganised the forums in a more orderly way. This should not cause any problems.

Hopefully the change will be seamless and will not affect the underlying structure of the website.

Please post in the relevant topics to keep similar posts together.

regards David

David, under general discussions you suggest gallery to show your work but none of teh headings under that section would really suit so can't post in a relevant section.

Hi Jason

It is sorted.

Nothing has been removed, just moved.

I just rearranged what we had.

Firefly thread

The topics are not necesarily present.

More can be added.

Just ask.

regards David

I can see the topic headings are the same but If I wanted to post pictures of one of my steam or hit and miss engines there is no topic in general discussions that would suit.

I'll just carry on posting under Ic or stationary engines under the main model engineering section.

Maybe general discussions would be better off as technical discussions are its mostly about methods, materials, tools etc

Jason

PS just seen you have added Work in progress section

Hi Jason

Yes, put them in WIP and finished models.

I look forward to seeing them.

Wow great improvement (lol I have to say that really) but as an IT engineer with some web experience I found a few places for improvement but wasn't expecting such a change!

As for the gallery I suggested adding that but although its on the list you haven't actually created the thread

EDIT: Ooops its just appeared

Hi Wolfie

Contrary to what people think, I do listen to suggestions.

Often they can't be done or they take someone else a few months to do, both of which are beyond my control.

Hi David,

Can we have a topic for non-steam scale locomotives. I've always felt decidedly nervous posting about my electric powered model of a diesel-shunter in that section., and that lack of a home for other prime movers re-inforces the 'model steam locomotive builder' reputation of ME.

Can it not go under Work in progrress?

Or better still

Miscellaneous models
Any static or powered model in any scale and not covered in any other topic.

The risk is everyone will want a topic for their own type of modeling and you will have loads of topics with few posts, just look at the trams or Shand mason ones for example

Hi Stub

That is a reasonable request.

It is done and I renamed scale live steam to live steam.

That's service, thanks David.

Jason - much as I love stationary steam engines, I think non-steam locos are one of the biggest (and growing)sub-sections of the hobby.

I hope, like me, you are looking over your shoulders at the footie!

Neil

Spelling corrected - even a Welshman like me happy to see Engerland through to the quarter finals!

Possiblity of being in the wrong place but isn't it about time the posts are all standardised whereby they all fit the screen instead of having a vertical line of adverts in them, most of them appear to fit the screen but a lot are very wide and also losing part of the text means that I cant be bothered trying to read them.

Hi Dick

Posts are a standard width.

If someone posts from Word or puts extra large photos in, it messes up the formatting.

If you tell us we can correct it.

regards David

How to make bushes by Wolfie is the latest example.

I am puzzled. I also subscribe to RCM&E, who are also a part of the same organisation as MEW. The RCM&E website (www.modelflying.co.uk) is of a similar format regarding adverts and layout - but does not seem to suffer from any of the foibles of this site - why is this?

David - maybe you can ask the Techies who manage the web sites?

To keep numbers of sections under control perhaps those with few posts could be reviewed and amalgamated from time to time eg CNC & the other CNC and a new area started, as with many forums, for "chitchat" for people who want to drivel on about sport.
