Good evening.

If you read the list of people on the message board at the bottom of the page, you may at times see the name MadMike.

Well for what it is worth, that is me. I live in Leicestershire. Retired, ex-toolmaker (many decades ago I might add) and subsequently senior manufacturing management and director roles in both medium and large (very large) companies. My passion is restoring and riding old motorbikes, and I have a collection of them.

I also have a Myford 254S, which I use to make parts for my bikes and my daughters. It is a very late Myford recon, having been sold by them in September/October 2010 to a friend of mine in Leicester. He sadly passed away very suddenly and I obtained the lathe still on its delivery castors and totally unused along with a huge amount of new tooling.

If I see any queries from anybody and think that I can help them, then I most certainly will try if that is OK with everybody else.

Regards

MadMike

Hi Madmike

Welcome to the forum it's nice to have another experienced person to help some of us newbies to this hobby. As you can see from the range of threads we are a varied and mixed experienced bunch.

I am new to small scale engineering and find that this forum is a useful source of advice and look forward to your contributions. As on all fora we often have different views on how to do things and very occasionally it warms up a bit as opinions are aired or defended.

Have fun

regards

Martin

Hi Madmike and a warm welcome,

What part of Leicestershire? The forum although it has a varied, excellent, sometimes fractious but always helpful, list of contributors, but, you will find the website somewhat limiting and can be frustrating due to the limitations of the software supporting it. Unlike most other forums there is no way of knowing who is on at any one time unless you add everyone as 'friends' or even instructions on how to use the facilities. You just have to suck it and see or ask other contributors how to do even simple stuff such as posting pictures or videos.

However, once you get used to it's limitations the advice offered is knowledgeable and friendly (usually ).

Best regards

Terry

Hi Mad Mike
Does the mad bit come from making parts for your daughters?
What parts have you made for them, new arm, new leg?
regards David

PS only joking.
Welcome to the forum.

If you click on forums, at the top of the home page, then scroll down to the bottom of that page, there is a list of which members are on line. (or have been in the last 15 mins).

Cheers Derek

Hi Derek,

That's a bit of a rigmarole though. Typical of this software. All other forums I use have a list of online users on the live page I am viewing in place of one of the adverts we get here.
Sometimes on the left or at the bottom of the page.

Nice to see another member applying the tools and tehniques to bigger projects like motorbikes. Mine are a bit more modern (1990's) but I'm enjoying the learning curve
