Recently purchesed a boiler with a juliet chassis the boiler threads on the backhead for the regulator gland are knackerd.

Studs could be made and ive mad up a dummy set to test this idea and seems it will work ok, now the problem is silversoldering them into place as there is soft solder caulking directly above on top of the boiler shell so puts silber soldering out the question really for the most part.

Could i use a good compound like steam seal and screw the bronze studs once there made in ising said compound to seal them in place the temp trial ones i made up screw in tight with no wobble.

Im mainly wanting the loco for at home with an odd steam up in the garden on blocks etc, i doubt il get a chance to join a club after loosing my licence due to health reasons and can no longer freely get anywere with oit alot of hassle.

So public running is not on a list of things to do so idealy for now need to pass a home hudrulic and steam test for personal use and gain.

This model has been a major help in getting my health back on track for the last month or so and dont want to give up now but as stated dont have the means to get to somewere for helpbto rectfy the problems of the boiler, so having to go it somewhat alone to be able to enjoy it for myself.........

So a effective but simplish repair is whats needed to get me back on track.

hi just got my wagon back togethor today after the gaskets in the cylinder needing replaceing due to drying out ove the last 20 ish years.

would like to test if the engine runs ok as i have not had running since owning

would like to run on air due to livving in a first floor flat so steam is certainaly not an optin.

the model came with an adapter for running on air to be connect to a pipe.

the main question is is it ok to connect to a water clack to feed the air in to the boiler as there is no other place it can be put to also is there anything to watch out for while running on air. genneraly would it need less air preassure then steam or normal working pressure?

Ahh thanks for the reply Jason this is were of could work quite well for me because my cylinder doesn't mount directly to the boiler but needs a pipe from the boiler to the cylinder so that could work quite well and as to the steam dome well that should fit as well with just cutting one simple hole in a plate on the model.

ThThe only problem I for see from the pics of the boiler is that the safety valves would need putting side by side to suite the model I'm building

Hi I have come across for sale a boiler that fits my requirements pretty well question is it has no cert or plans with it............... How much of a problem would this be for getting it tested could it be reversed engineered to show this?

I'm looking at it as it would save me a lot epensce I can't afford its a simple marine style boiler 150mm od tube 32 8mm tubes 3mm thick plate extra tube slides on for firebox same for the smoke box going to fire it with 3 2" burners the boiler itself is 370mm long

Once both ends added perfect for my model

Hi Jason yh it is for the pyrte but the design has changed greatly and is now a lot bigger and in a wagon style model apose to a traction engine........ How do I work out how much steam I need to produce?

I don't mind designing my own boiler if someone could lead me in the right directions for the calculations used to work out tube thickness etc?

I already have a good idea of the design wanted/needed thru looking and researching on google and wikki

Joining a club for me at the moment is no option to me due to not driving so will have to be designed in house so to speak although I will get the design approved by a boiler inspector etc

I just need the basic info to set me on my way
