Hi,

I'm struggling to post PM's. The text box comes up fine, but I cannot get text to appear in the text box. I've tried tricks like using the "paste from Word" function but no success, I can't even cheat text into the box. I have sent PM's but cannot "reply".

I've also sent PM's with no text

My OS is Windows7

Anyonme else encountered this?

Well stuff me it's just happened to me on the Macbook when trying to reply to a PM from another member

Just cannot put the cursor in the text box to write anything. Can put it in the "Message To:" and "Subject:" boxes and type but nowhere else

Bizarre!!

It is bizarre. I could reply to Norman but not David.

I'll try IE see if that's any better, currently using Chrome.

I reckon that some of the adverts conflict with the site software.

Shut down the page and try it all over again right from a clean start homepage kinda thing.

Software loads up in a different order each time you move to a page, so the same page which was fine 60 seconds ago can go tits up 2nd time around.

I tend to disable shockwave flash in my tools/addons bit in firefox unless I go to youtube.
Flash is a pain in the neck and adverts consume a huge amount of bandwidth.

The text messages load in a blink, it's all the other advertising bloatware crud which demands to be processed and displayed which holds things up when you move from page to page.

Wikipedia for example has no adverts, so never has these issues.

I've just had to restrain myself form throwing my IPad out of the window. Having spent over half an hour composing a reply to a private message and pressing the send button nothing happened. I pressed it again and still nothing. I've checked the sent box and only the blank message, that I sent in error at the start of the process, is there. Having navigated away the message is now lost. Grrrrrr.

What doesn't help is that as soon as I start typing the window drops down to the original message and I can't see what I'm typing. What am I doing wrong? Is there a maximum length of message? After a bit of a struggle I did manage to attach a picture.

Going to the pub soon, John.

PS sorry I forgot, Happy New Year everybody.

PPS if you read this , not done it yet, I'll have another go tomorrow.

A workaround technique to avoid the frustration you just experienced is to make a copy/paste of the written text of the message just after writing and save it to Notepad or Word. Then if the ME site loses it (it has happened MANY times to me, especially in the early days of the site) you can copy paste from your saved file to the PM message centre if need be.

We should not have to do this, or go through the rigmarole needed to put jpegs in albums then messages either, but the powers that be who run the web content here will not change it. It's by far the oddest commercial (run by publishing firm) hobby forum site I've come across. Most other commercial sites have done major improvements over the years and the user experience is much better. Not this site. There are worse - Yahoo for example has de-improved their group site functions steadily to the point that few people bother with it anymore.

I had trouble with this the other day. The curser seems to have a mind of its own. I ended up typing the message with out being able to see it until I moved the message up. As soon as I started to type again the lower message box came up and I was typing blind again. I finished the message by having to scroll back up to my typing window and send it. I am still not sure whether it went or not but it was shown in my “sent” box.

Thanks for that Jeff, I'll try that next time.
