Hi Engineers,

Amid all this moaning and whining about some dimensions missing in 4407 (most of which can be worked out by looking elsewhere on the drawings) nobody has yet mentioned the new viewer !!!
I would like to congratulate David and the ME team for changing to what looks like a very good viewer, at least in my opinion it's miles better, thanks guys.

Put down yer cups of tea and make some swarf.

I would like to mention the new viewer for 4407, can't get it to load up a page. Preview of pages works fine but when you "click" on a page the viewer sits there forever trying to load up the page and nothing is being downloaded.
Am using FireFox 5, is that of any significance ??

I presume this is just for ME at the moment ?

Just tried the MEW viewer and it's the same old and same old adobe flash crashes. And this is on a recent brand new computer with new install of W7 and all the latest updates.

Hi There
I just tried it with IE 8 and it is superb.

I printed out page 15 with drawings and page 16 with text and photos.
Both were of good quality.

When you click on page to magnify it, it defaults to a very large page.
I have asked if they can make it default to single pag width.
They will check this out.

To overcome this, you can vary the page size with a scroll mouse.
Long term we will replace all the magazines with the new viewer but it will take time.
There is also a search facility and that worked fine on M.E. 4407.
I doubt the search will be any good on MEW magazines before about 2002.

Anyway, enjoy.
regards David

PS Can someone check it on Android and Ipad etc?

Hi John
MEW 179 is being done now.
All new magazines will use the new viewer.
Old ones will be converted over time.

Only seem to be able to scrol sideways on my Android HTC, can't move up and down an enlarged page.

Thanks to "someone" the viewer is now working fine, only comment I can make re page loading problem is that for some reason the connection was very slow when I had the troubles. Now the speed is as it should be the viewer works like greased lightening.
However do note that the mouse curser dissapears from an expanded page on occassions.

Thanks to David and his crew a great magazine with interesting content

What happened to the new digital format in ME issue 4408? Are we back to the old reader?

Even though the new format was still a bit lacking with regards to mobile devices (tablets), it was still leaps and bounds beyond the old reader with the pdf export option.

Just a minor observation, with the old viewer, it was possible to flick through the pages using the mouse scroll wheel, this doesn't work in the new viewer. Would be nice if this could be implemented in the new one, that said, the new viewer is a huge improvement and a lot faster. Looking forward to the whole archive being converted.

regards

Hi There
They have not bothered to change 4408 as the whole lot are being converted and it will all be done at one go.
They are doing them now.
I find the scroll button resets the size of the page which is more useful than scrolling through.
regards David

When in zoome mode, the scroll wheel changes the zoom level, but when in normal paging mode it does nothing

I am still hoping for some news on the new digital edition viewer. I can see that the last issues of ME and MEW is using the new viewer. However there is no longer a convenient printing option shown in the earlier preview. I am still mostly using an android tablet to view the magazines and even with the new viewer the PDF is still the superior way to read. Please reinstate the printing option to make the electronic version more readable.

I reported the lack of a print icon with MEW180 earlier this evening to David. (MEW179 had it there)
