Looking at milling machines I'm undecided between the Warco WM14 or the Chester Champion 20V
Any comments?

If the machines are broadly the same, I would go for the one you can vist in person. I am fairly close to Chester and being able to vist is sometimes better than relying on phones calls and the post.

it may be worth looking at amadeal they have similar machines at lower prices search on ebay for "ama16v"(i was contemplating getting one of these mills but ended up getting a second hand warco 'minor mill'

Try to find out why the AMA 16VF is cheaper. The reason could be significant.

I've got a Warco WM16 mill had it for about 2 years with no problems,found it to be user friendly and a good price.

Hi Eric
             I bought the Chester 20V a few months ago and I am well pleased with it so far.
      I was warned off the cheaper versions,and told they are made in a different factory to the Warco and Chester jobs, and are of inferior quality. I would agree that if you live close to one or the other , it would make sense to buy from them.

I bought a Warco lathe last August and personally I will not buy anything else from them because of their after sales – or lack of it. 

Firstly no one wants to answer the telephone, it’s always a voice mail so then you are stuck waiting for them to ring you back. 

Second, they don’t want to come and repair the machine, they want to send you the part and you fit it yourself, even within the six months parts and labour warranty period.
I had to replace the cross slide from new as it was all pitted when I unpacked it after delivery. I explained I had no experience repairing lathes but still they insisted I do the job myself. I ended up getting a friend who has a lathe to come and help. 

The lathe has now completely stopped working and it is still under the parts and labour warranty period and still they are trying to get out of sending someone to fix it, instead they told me ‘it sounds like a motor problem. We will send you one to fit yourself’. I am sticking it out this time and insisting they send someone to repair it. 

I am in the market for a small mill but will not touch Warco with a barge pole after the lack of after sales.

Do some research on the internet on the "Sale of Goods Act 1984, as amended" and don't be afraid to quote it. You may find some ammunition there as goods are meant to be 'fit for purpose', which those apparently are not.  Don't just whinge about it here, do something.

Warco have now said they will send someone to look and hopefully repair my lathe –however, not their own service people because ‘they are ‘busy and I live too far away’ so they are trying to find someone near where I live to come. ‘But it might take a while to find someone’ they added!

What a shower!

I guess unless you live in the south of England, don’t buy a Warco.

Hello one and all,
 
I am new to this group (first posting) and milling machines as well. I am also looking to purchase a milling machine and I am some what confused regarding the comparison between the Warco WM14 and the Champion 20V or should it be Champion 16V as the Champion 20V is nearly twice the weight of the Warco WM14.
 
I have now narrowed it down, I think, to either the Warco WM14 or the Chester Champion 16V and I am wondering if the Champion 16V is a slightly more rigid machine as it is about 15 Kgs heavier and I am fairly close to Chester.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I have read the WARCO Warranty statement and it is very clear Parts and Labour for the first 6 months with the repair at their Works or the customer's at WARCO's choosing, next 6 months, Parts only.
 
There is nothing wrong with that in that it is quite clear as to what and how it will happen. It is unreasonable to expect a Supplier of a relatively cheap machine to charge about all over the country to deal with what you have shown to be a minor problem at first.
 
If you read the Chester Warranty, it is a return to Chester 12 months period and if you want a Home visit they charge you for travel and expenses.

I bought a Warco WM16 mill a few years ago,after a couple of months the motor "packed in" with a pop! I e-mailed Warco some photos of the motors damaged internals, a day or two later a new motor arrived with their appologies for the inconvienence caused.They also asked if I was able to fit the new motor or were they to send an engineer to fit it FOC. Have only praise for them in any dealings I have had with them.
