Does anyone know what clips like this one are properly called, and where I might buy a few of a different size?

This one was originally used to set the extension on some crutches, and I'd like to get hold of a smaller size for another application.

My own searching comes up with "E-Clips" as a name, but that is also the name of the external circlip type things, which doesn't help with searching at all!

Thanks.

A quick search of Ebay has turned up, Quick Release Actuator Retaining Clip Pin with Loop, which are not quite the same but work on the same principle and should be more robust. See ebay page here.

May well be others but these turned within 2 or 3 mins of looking.

Cheers

Thanks everyone - I think the *real* problem is that no-one makes these for smaller applications - in my case I need the pin that goes through the parts to be 3mm in diameter. The medical device/crutch adjusters are the smallest I can find - I'll either have to make something myself or change my design to do it another way.

The major attraction of this design is that there's nothing sticking out too much to catch if the items it goes through rotates.

Why not buy some tool clips and fit pins in the hole for screwing them to a board?

Hi

I dont know what they are called, nor the diameter you are looking for BUT

could you buy pipe clips

https://www.screwfix.com/p/talon-15mm-contract-pipe-clip-100-pack/11880?kpid=11880&ds_rl=1249404&gclid=CjwKCAjwiOCgBhAgEiwAjv5whPU4r0ezsDWome2al6kngTz14UjwTwU9JvxUxZ9WjbY-iYLrpR2ZFRoCa3wQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

in the right size and use the screw mounting hole for the pin?

George

Would R-clips work?

Brian G

Yes - in fact an R-Clip is what I'm using at the moment, but I can see a circumstance when it will either get in the way or catch on something (a hand for example) with unpleasant consequences.

It needs to be removable as I only need to use the large winding arbor gripper (adapted from a tap wrench) for large fusee springs, and want to use the original, smaller gripper most of the time. Originally there was a roll pin.

Tool clips could work, not as smooth as I want, but better than the R-Clip, and the pipe clips also, and I could file the corners off to make them smoother.

For smooth and unobtrusive, use a slip fit plain pin and make a plastic sleeve that fits the OD of the modified tap wrench. Slide the sleeve sideways when you want to release the pin.

My cheapskate version would be a slice of bike inner tube, an elastic band or a wrap of insulation tape.

Have a look at how black oxide impact sockets are retained - semi-circular groove with O-ring stopping pin escaping.

Could you put your 3mm pin through the hole (just long enough) then slide a collar over the pin?

Following on from bernard's idea, copy the method used on Makita impact wrenches which is to have a shallow

groove which holds an O ring to keep the pin in place.

DC31k, Bernard and Spurry:

genius ideas - I will do something along those lines - I love the O-Ring concept especially

Thanks!
