In light of my faux pas yesterday, regarding the electrical specification of the welder on ebay … I suspect that the description and specification of this little machine from Cookson Gold is riddled with typos

For your amusement … try to work out how big it really is, and how much it might realistically cost.

Easy to work out how big it is by the photos with a hand in the shot (assuming a normal human hand)

So that’s one part of the Specification that’s wrong

Hi MichaelG, looks like they have left a 0 off all their figures, just like I did yesterday, which I owned up too in my later post at 14/01/2023 15:42:36 Chuck Weights

Regards Nick.

Obviously it lost a lot in translation. Chinese suppliers seem to often use Google Translate to generate their English sales literature and spec sheets, with often dismal results, sometimes hilarious. The dimensions listed look like maybe they would be the workholding capacity, not the overall size of the machine. Some sales pogue would not know the difference and just posted them as they came. Price seems about in line with same looking machines on eBay. That's commerce in the 21st century. You pays your money and you takes your chances.

I was doing same yesterday. I want a small dust extractor. This is ‎16.54 x 12.2 x 13.78 cm;

https://www.amazon.co.uk/WORX-WX031-9-Cordless-Compact-Cleaner/dp/B098B82K8D

If you buy the same thing with the battery, it expands to 42.2 x 35.2 x 32.79 cm

Usually I don't pay enough attention... I just received a 24/12 idler gear for my super 7 - should have been 30/12 but I just clicked on the cheapest

Curiously … none of the others appear to offer Cookson’s 480 Volt option devil

But I was ‘suitably impressed’ by the claimed power and weight of one version on ebay:

Specification:

Voltage: AC220V

Power: 600W

Speed: 20000rpm

Clamping range (tool): 0.3-4mm

Machine weight: 6.3kg

.

Incidentally

I have written to Cookson Gold, requesting that they check their specification and update as appropriate.

I doubt writing to Cooksons will help much.

A few years ago I bought one of these (link below) precision vices on the basis that it had 'carbide' jaws. Their description which originally said the jaws were hard (with carbide mentioned in the text body) has since been updated and now says there are soft (as a result of me returning the vice and telling them in an email

I wonder why one might need to drill pearls and beads in two operations 180 degrees apart?

Yes it might be necessary if the object was over the 35mm diameter but that would be a whopper pearl. I can imagine threading a string through double drilled holes would be fraught with difficulty because of the drill drifting

I think it’s because drilling right through from one end might damage the pearl’s surface as the bit breaks through.

This amused me:

The compact unit .... includes a depth regulator valve...,

Is that for drilling pearls at source? Or do I know too much about diving?

Reply received this morning:

Dear Michael

Thank you for your email. We are getting the information corrected. The 1st line should say depth not width 4mm - 35mm.

So at least they have started looking at it.

Spose the use of cms is in preparation for muddle ingineers deciding raw material prices are too high and convert to dressmaking.

I wonder if the pliers have another Cooksons description error. They are made from stainless.

If anyone buys these please report back here

Ian P

I've just looked on the manufacturers website (Beadalon.com) and they do say the head is stainless. My apologies to Cooksons.
BTW the double headed pliers are tempting
