I have a small boring bar that takes small CCGT 030102 L inserts. The L is important as it is a right hand bar from APT and they only take L inserts. APT sell inserts but only in packs of 10 like everywhere else I have found. Jenny at JB Tools only has R variant. Anyone know of a source of these inserts in a lower quantity? I only need a couple. I can do the internal small taper job a different way but currently have a boring bar with no inserts,

Google turned this up LINK

UK supplier at 5 Quid a throw.

I usually get my inserts from AliExpress but they do not seem to list this particular one, which is surprising because they have squillions of them to choose from. Must not be used in Chinese industry.

That is APT that he mentions if you look at the quantity dropdown it goes in steps of 10. They only do a limited amount of their range in smaller amounts.

Individuals here but you pay a premium for someone to takle it out of a box of ten

Thanks Jason - that too has a min order of 10 unfortunately- it appears that for these inserts 10 is min. Jenny had a good luck for through her stock but she only had R and they don’t fit having tried some at Midlands show. I even contacted apt to see if they would split but inevitably answer was no.

JB tools web site is out but you can order by phone. I ordered some last week and they arrived in a couple of days despite the postal strike. Jenny's phone number is 078750757523 or 012460418110 Loverly to deal with.

Will CCGT 030102 inserts not work? Just a thought.

Tony.

With Christmas and previous good service in mind I tried to revisit the website - jbcuttingtools.com - but was warned off as "insecure" by both Firefox and Brave.

Is the site actually "out" and is there any real ground for concern on account of trackers, cookies, fingerprinters, etc?

Something is wrong with the website. Most likely it's a temporary malfunction, but it could be a spoof. Under no circumstances would I use that website to spend money or provide personal details. If the website is a wrong-un, or has been hacked due to weak security, then the victim is in for serious hassle; the risk is too high for me.

If the firm is trustworthy and can be contacted by other means, use the other means, don't trust a broken website.

Tony unfortunately they need to be the L variant. Jenny has R and we tried a few to see if they would fit - they don’t. It looks like I have to buy 10 and try and sell on half or more or keep looking for a needle in a haystack.

There do seem to be some "unhanded" ones about that just look like a small version of a CCGT 06etc which may be another option if you can't find the lefties.

I have seen some small carbide shank boring bars for sale on ebay and they use the size 3 inserts, and failed to find a source of inserts before buying the tool. I had to pay £50 for a box if inserts for the Garant 6mm solid carbide shank boring bar as they are propriety fit, and a similar size. However, the quality is outstanding for any metal which is some consolation.

I have bought from Jenneys Tools via their ebay site several times and can recommend them.

That insecure website that SOD mentioned might simply be non https, and the browser security might be set to warn against it. Try visiting the Lathes UK site, that always get a warning when I visit for that reason.

...

Not simply in this case.

lathes.co.uk doesn't have a security certificate at all, which results in a warning that can safely be ignored because lathe.co.uk doesn't take money or personal details. If the site is hacked, it's the site owners problem.

jb is different - their security certificate is bad, which means the site may not be what it claims to be, or that the site administrator has messed up. Whatever the reason it's several notches more worrying than lathes.co.uk, and it's website users who get whacked if there's a problem.

My advice, never use a website with a broken security certificate for online purchasing; the owner needs to fix it.

Thanks for the website info, SOD, it would be safer to buy on their ebay shop, probably, then.

I have bought from Lathes UK in the past.

Just ring on the phone number I gave, I expect the price will be better than buying from Ebay.

Re the web site; last I heard, directly from Jenny, it is completely defunct and shouldn't be showing any shopping options.
I'm told it was maintained by Jenny's son(s), who might also have been involved in supplying/making some of the tooling, but they have now taken a different direction work wise.
The Ebay shop is fine, and I'm sure the phone numbers are OK; I think Jenny also still has a presence at some exhibitions/shows.

My understanding is all is well with JB and Jenny.

Just as an aside, the post office strikes are causing a lot of people issues. I know people who have suspended sales of craft items on Etsy and eBay shops over Christmas as, despite the hit to their sales. This is because they know mail delays can cause huge damage to their feedback and seller status!
