In the photo there are two plug sockets, one 12v abd one 249v. I dont have a cable for either of them - put them safe somewhere! Is there a generic name for these plugs which would enable me to purchase new ones? Rhe 240v looks just like what we used to use on our casette player back in the dark ages. Thanks. I make steam boilers for a living and this will keep my drinks cool in the workshop so definately on topic!

The 240v one is a "figure of eight" otherwise known as an IEC C7.

Figure 8 240v socket. Need a straight-on pic of the 12vdc socket to ID it properly.

If that is a Camping Gaz Cool box, I got a spare 12v one from Amazon.

If you do a search for 12v Cool Box Lead on eBay, you will find a variety of suppliers, both UK and further afield.
£3.89 seems to be a common price for ones claiming to be UK landed.

Note that the fig8 lead has a little nick out of it between the pins as a polarising key. Some leads don't have this. Of course for AC it doesn't matter so you can modify to fit.

Hi, fizzy,

Just had a look in my odds and sods drawer and came across a redundant SKY box mains lead. It has the 240v plug you're looking for. If you want it, PM me with your address and I'll pop it in the post.

John

Sorry fizzy, but couldn’t find a spare in the workshop. Looks like you are sorted now anyway.

Memory tells me there are two types of this plug, one has cutouts on each side, the other has flat sides. The flat sided one will NOT fit in the socket that needs the cutouts ! Noel.

If you enlarge the photo of the panel posted by Pete Rimmer, above, that shows that this is the Marilyn Monroe shape. I've assumed fizzy's (socket) is the same.

John

P.S.  The flat-sided one is the shape of the 12V input.

Edit: added P.S.

When I lost my 12v lead to my cooler box I used a spare fig8 plug temporarily. I just touched the sides on the belt sander till it slid in the recess & marked one side so I knew which way round to plug it in. I used it a couple of times ok until the errant lead showed up from its hiding place. smiley

regards

Be mindful that these things are about 40W so are not meant to be run off 12v when the car engine is not running although Fizzy isn't (I assume) running a mobile workshop.

Hi, I think these types of socket are common, below is of one called Wanderer and manufactured by Laurina.

ac & dc sockets.jpg

The AC lead won't go in the 12V DC one, unless you do what oldiron did with his lead.

Regards Nick.

Thanks all. I found an old lapop plug lead which has sorted the 240v side. The 12v is as others have suggested, one flat side and the other with a nick in it . Ive ordered one off tbay so fingers crossed!
