![]() 1129 forum posts 1 photos | Hi All, I do not wish to mislead anyone with my latest listing which is SUPPOSEDLY for a set of STUART Beam Engine castings minus the flywheel as in the auction description where I bought them in with other stuff. Pretty sure they ARE NOT Stuart so would love some help identifying them please. I have pulled the listing until clarified. Regards, Martin |

![]() 1129 forum posts 1 photos | Thanks very much guys for the help. will go through the items carefully tomorrow to see EXACTLY what I have before listing them again. I will also have a chat with the auction house about their description which was why I was bidding in the first place. however it does go to show that a little knowledge (on my part) can be dangerous! 😗 cheers, Martin |

1505 forum posts 56 photos | I think that the Sanderson is a much nicer engine than the Stuart. But I probably shouldn't say that if you are selling the castings. |

![]() 1129 forum posts 1 photos | Hi All, i have sorted out the mis-description with the Auction House who were very helpful. I have got a photo of what SHOULD be a FULL set of Sanderson castings and have marked the ones I do and do not have. There do however appear to be two cylinder casting and two of the support arm castings in the photo of which I only have one each? The Blackgates pic shows only one of each I think? Y for what I have and X for what is missing.
I also appear to have 6 "extra" bronze or GM castings as shown here? Any help most welcome to get to the bottom of this so I can list them with confidence and accuracy. Cheers, Martin |

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | The second cylinder and the two brackets are not needed for the engine but may be a selling point particularly the cylinder which could be warded as a spare should something go/be wrong with the other. The other bronze bits are probably best sold as a job lot of "assorted model steam engine castings" or similar |

![]() 431 forum posts 252 photos | Of your extra bronze castings I think the smaller of the circular ones with the chucking piece may be the piston casting. I seem to recall when I made mine that the piston was a similar casting. The finished piston is 1" dia. by 7/16" thick if that fits with its dimensions ( allowing for a machining allowance ). John |

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | I think the piston casting is in the group shot between the cylinder and the stick of bronze. |

![]() 431 forum posts 252 photos | Jason, I'm not quite sure what you mean is the piston castings? |
JasonB | 23/01/2022 19:03:46 |
![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | Actually I think you may be right John, what I thought Martin was allowing the piston to be may well be the eccentric |

![]() 1129 forum posts 1 photos | Jason, I do not have the second cylinder and second support bracket so I am OK with just the one of each. Again, are there supposed to be two of the small castings to the right of the beam? I only have the one. I will list the extra castings along with the main lot. cheers, Martin

![]() 431 forum posts 252 photos | Jason, yes I believe that is the eccentric, the chucking piece is offset. Martin, the larger of the two round cast bronze sticks is material for the main and beam bearing bronzes. That is what was supplied for them with my castings which came from Clarksons in '82. The two castings to the right of the beam you mention are the support for the parallel motion anchor links, and no, only one is required. It is fastened to the top of the support bracket between the cylinder and the column. John |

![]() 1129 forum posts 1 photos | Many thanks guys for clarifying all this. As you know eBay is our small business and there is nothing worse than mis-describing items listed. We try hard to be accurate in our listings and this has been a great help. Cheers, Martin |
