![]() 1531 forum posts 44 photos | I have recently received an email from Kate Hall to the effect that there are going to be problems with distribution of the Print version of the magazine, and that an offer is being made to allow digital access until the supply chain has returned to normal. Instructions are given about how to set up digital access. Now all that is fair enough, because let's face it, the news media are currently full of stories about insufficient HGV drivers and the corresponding delivery problems and hence shortages, but it still leaves me with a few questions. Firstly, will I still be getting the Print version for each issue, albeit delayed? Secondly, I use Linux Mint as my operating system. Reading the information on the digital version setting up screens, and going direct to Pocket Mags (which appears to be the method by which digital versions are created), there is no reference to Linux. There is reference to other systems, Windows v.10, IOS, etc, but not Linux. Therefore will this system work? FWIW, the web browsers I use are Firefox, occasionally Brave, and I understand that if necessary I can download & install Chrome (but don't really want Chrome for reasons of privacy - I don't trust Google). Thirdly, on reading past forum entries, there have been at times problems with printing. Could someone state precisely how printing is supposed to work and in what format is the eventual file, eg pdf, jpg, or what? Indeed, how does one use this system? Finally, I assume from Kate's email that this will be at nil cost to myself? Thankyou, Peter G. Shaw

Sorry but if I don’t get print versions then I will have to think seriously about being a subscriber. . Me too I am quite prepared to view some electronic versions as an interim measure, but, as Peter has asked: … will I still be getting the Print version for each issue, albeit delayed? MichaelG. . Didn’t know that Royal Mail had a shortage of HGV drivers I still get my post on time. Is it shortage of paper to the printers?? The growing shortage of HGV drivers has been in the news for several months, and trouble was predicted last year. At the moment the UK has jobs for about 600,000 HGV drivers and there are about 100,000 unfilled vacancies. Although the heavy supply chain is far from collapse, deliveries are queuing because of driver shortages. Priority is being given to perishable goods - not magazines. The effects vary depending where you live: round here it's most obvious in the building trade; all sorts of odd shortages and funny prices! The problem is slowly getting worse: some Supermarkets have warned it won't be possible to fully satisfy consumer demand over Christmas. In that context, sounds like Kate is trying to reduce the risk of upsetting print only subscribers by allowing them digital access in the event their letterbox fails. Sensible precaution methinks - these are difficult times. Dave

Well now we know which magazine that could explain why I have not had an e-mail as I subscribe to ME not MEW I haven't had an email either. I have a print only MEW subscription, whilst ME is print and digital. Not panicking: I'm British. Stiff upper lip chaps, we can take it! Dave |

![]() 19226 forum posts 749 photos 86 articles | Hi everyone, I have only just returned from a week away, and need to catch up. To me, it reads as MTM are producing paper copies as normal, but because they are worried about the impact of the current driver shortage on deliveries they are opening up digital access to all subscribers for the 'forseeable future'. I suggest grabbing the free digital access while you can, and hope any delays to the paper copies are minor. I have raised a query so I can be sure of the details. Neil |

1395 forum posts 30 photos | I have a print subscription for MEW but after the confusion re the number of issues promised under that subscription I decided to have a standing order with local W H Smith in UK to take ME and hold it until I collect it - that has been erratic with both that and for another weekly magazine I take missing issues etc - my own opinion is that W H Smith don't actually care though they require an upfront deposit to hold magazines. So far I seem to have all MEWs tho as many have realised the contents seem significantly less than pre covid days and with sometimes poor proof reading leading to missing content. I don't find reading issues online attractive though it does save considerable space - the surveillance model of today's internet is equally distasteful. |

![]() 1531 forum posts 44 photos | Neil, I have had a look at the header, both as "All" (I normally use "Normal" To be honest, I don't really know what I'm looking for. If anybody wants to have a look at it, I can always Forward it to another email address. Would that help? Another comment: on checking, the string of numbers I replaced by "x,s" - see my previous message - is not my subscription number as I first thought. Therefore, the number is: 05649018. Could this be some some sort of registration number pertaining to My Time Media? Peter.
