Merry Christmas everybody!

Help please....as you can see (hopefully!) I've trashed the end of my cutter.

I'd like to order a replacement, but despite searching, I can't find a match. It was bought as part of a set, and original retailers (Chester) say they can only supply a set of inserts for the complete set?

Anyone have any idea what this is please?

Cheers!

Your links will not work. You need to read the thread on creating an album and posting pictures. This comes up regularly.

Thanks for the very quick response.

They are hotlinks to Postimage, which I copied and pasted into the open box?

Just need to amend them quickly, any ideas where the edit button is please?

Thanks.

The section of the insert is a bit wierd, the bottom is somewhat like the underside of a ships hull...if that makes sense...??

No problem - FYI the edit button is in the green banner at the top of the post.

If you use the 'direct link' from Post Image (looks like 'https://i.postimg.cc/4Nf9Zg16/IMG-4093.jpg' ) you can paste that into the box that pops up when you click the 'Image' button when composing the message. If it works, you will see the picture as you're writing.

Good luck with finding an insert!

Happy Christmas.

I'm glad I re-checked this thread before I continued to duplicate what you've just done.

It looks like This Is The Tool Set

Sometimes scrolling through ebay items works, just to see if you can recognise something
These are similar, but look like they are intended to go in a horizontal position, unlike yours which slope upwards

Yes Bill (peak4) that's the one! I only need the insert for the parting tool, I have plenty of the others. Unfortunately Chester say they can't supply the parting insert on it's own, as it's only avaiable as part of a the set.

If you can find the code for the insert, it will help. You can search for the insert code, and probably pick up a lot of sources and manufacturers. If you succeed, you would be safest buying from a supplier based in your country, should any problems arise.

Warco do not appear to sell anything similar.

Take a look at Arc Euro Trade site. They sell GTN inserts in 2.2 and 3 mm widths, which might be suitable.

Their MGMN inserts are double ended and are either TiN or AlTiN coated, but only come in 2 mm widths. They might be too long for your holder. (These are used in the MGEH holders )

The eBay link by peak4 is for a double-ended insert. This will not fit.

GTN inserts will not fit.

MGMN inserts will not fit as they are again double-ended.

Have a look at:

https://www.rdgtools.co.uk/acatalog/9PC-Turning---Boring---Parting-and-Grooving-Tool-Set-12mm-Shank-435344.html

I think the parting tool is the same. The photo is a bit small. Check the other shank sizes in the same range to see if anything more visible is shown.

If you can establish identity, the insert code is given on that page - it is not SCMT or WCMT. The two JCL15 references with I and E are, I guess, the internal and external screwcutting inserts. By a process of elimination, that leaves CK3.

Please ask someone else to critique this analysis before committing your cash.

I appreciate the ones I linked to were incorrect, just using it as an encyclopedia>
Yes you're spot on with CK3s I found them and spotted your reply when I came to report back

The tricky bit might be finding someone with them in stock RGD seem not to, though I guess they will be available direct from China.

I find it very poor sales support if the supplier can neither supply the inserts, or give you the specification of the insert. Worth taking note of the suppliers name ??

Paulimot has them in Germany. Should be available by post CK3

May be other suppliers around.

It would be worth contacting Jenny Blackwell at JBCuttingTools.com. I have bought similar inserts from her at shows, and their postal service is super-efficient.

I am with Niall on this. There are few in the world of ME that are as knowledgable as Jenny at JB Cutting Tools. Service and pricing are excellent. If you want to pay top dollar but get branded Kennametal stuff try MSC (J & L) at Wednesbury. They carry a huge range of inserts.

Sandvik also publish data that you can wade through. Get the insert spec and ID then look through the readily available conversion charts. If it was originally purchased from Chester then it will be Chinese. Even their inserts generally match proper standards.

Ian.
