It is nothing more than a drum brake.

Activation of the brake (coupling) seems to happen by some mevhanism on the axis, probably by some lever that pushes the mechanism to the centre of it.

It is a dim memory, but wasn't one version of the Myford clutch the front brake from a Raleigh moped??

IIRC it was an after-market accessory for the ML7 made that way.

I've got one of these on my ML7 (1962 vintage), does anyone know where to get the shoes or the friction material?

Villiers Services offer a service for brake relining 01384 265797 or email contact @villiers services.co.uk, another firm is Friction Services 01179 866453 email www.frictionserviceslid.co.uk. I would suggest you send the entire unit if you deicide to use either, so that they can unsure that everything fits OK.. John

Hi, I have just removed this pin to measure for you,and it is round hard bar,rounded at both ends,and is...29.1mm. Long and 3.16mm.width. Thanks

I replaced the pin with a masonry nail. Works very well.
