Couples can go to the supermarket so what risk did they pose?

The couple were not within 2 metres of anyone else, until the Police came and failed to social distance themselves. Thus changing a safe situation to one causing risk to everyone concerned.

Common sense is not that common any more!

As usual we have the "it does not apply to me " minority

Many Supermarkets have adopted single person shopping , not couples.ven the smaller ones have one way systems and floor markers to aid spacing s Sitting on the beach with is not exercise . A prompt exit from the beach would have made the 10 minute? conversation unnecessary.

Very few people walking through the village compared to a normal sunny weekend so mostly just the locals walking dogs or exercising horses. However did see a handful of cars that must have come further and a couple of people with an unnecessarily large backpack for a one hour walk.

I didn't leave my garden but spoke to a passing friend at a few yards distance who updated me on meat and other food deliveries being available. Reminds me of my childhood when we still had a village shop plus weekly visits from butcher, baker, milkman, paperboy, laundry, coalman, and egg lady so could live without a car.

FYI my wife and I practice social distancing and only visit shops to buy essentials.

We are using common sense in our approach.

I have NO time for idiot box tickers and jobsworths.

As my wife and I both fall into the "elderly vulnerable adults with underlying health issues" we have been self isolating for the last two weeks and fully expect to continue to do so for the next 14 weeks minimum, or however long as it takes. We are not fed up with this or the on-going prospect at all; we accept that is is how it has to be.

What does upset us is the attitude of the younger generation who think all the government requirements on social distancing, cutting out unnecessary unessential journeys and staying at home, going out for exercise just once a day and shopping infrequently, just do not apply to them and carry on regardless.

They have a touching but totally misplaced faith in their own immortality. Unfortunately, a load of them are going to die before they get the message and reality sets in. Sad, but some people only learn the hard way, many not even then.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

So well done with the helmet of water on the barbie! Perhaps those idiots may now learn to think.

Yes0, it was nice to be welcomed in the supermarket, ahead of everyone else, as Elderly (We are, combined age of 160!) But did he have to shout it out quite so loudly?

Have to admit, that in my 20s mortality never entered my mind. Now am sure that the future is shorter than it used to be. So make the most of it, if you can!  Just pleased not need a Zimmer frame yet!

I agree with Bill - IMO all the coppers did wrong was argue before dousing the barbie.

A walk on the beach for exercise is one thing - setting up for a meal is nothing but inyerface scoffing - literally.

Howard I am afraid that I think you have completely failed to think this one through. A barbeque on a public beach is not in any way essential. There may have only been two people stupid enough to do that (is that a fact or a guess). But the government have issued an instruction, not a request and if the idiots in Brighton think that they are excluded then I can only shake my head in disbelief. I suppose that you also overlooked the fact that the police would have been inundated with calls from the majority of people that saw this act of gross stupidity taking place, and then of course there are the weak easily lead, who will think oh that must be alright for me to do because someone else is doing it. I hope the fine is as heavy as it can be.

By the way, in talking to patients who are fighting for their lives, most have told me that they can't think where or from whom they caught the virus. It seems to be the things that we think we are ok to do that are still catching us out.

I’m likely going ‘rolling’ tomorrow. Maybe ‘drilling’ instead.

I’m over 70 and my wife has no spleen, but I reckon that the farmer has to get the work done and it will be in thirty acre fields, so well away from anyone else.

It will get me out for a few hours, do my friend a huge favour (he might well have had to employ potentially covid19 workers to help on the farm at this fairly busy time and he, too, is over 70).

That and setting up reasonably sterile conditions for making NHS-compliant face mask frames means I reckon I am doing my bit, as safely as possible, even though the risk is marginally higher than just making the necessary shopping trip tomorrow evening.

It will also give me the opportunity, perhaps, to zero in my air rifle (after making a night-vision set-up for it these last few days).

Police were right to intervene. Otherwise, next week there would be hundreds doing the same trick. Are these people idiots, or what? They do not need their brains testing for any form of sensible operation. They don’t have one!

As someone posted somewhere else - think how stupid the average person can be, and then realise that half the population are below average.....

There are far, far worse things going on, with the passive acceptance of the government.

This is classic military diversion tactics.

I am not really into politics but what part of a military tactic is this then? It's really just taking sensible precautions, you may not know this but the virus has no means of self transporting or transmission, it needs a weak link, that's where the idiots on Brighton beach come in.

The government has certainly made some big mistakes and been slow to act, but I applaud the fact that they have not come down very heavy handed which they could have done. Instead they have allowed the media to show diluted updates about the virus and issued an instruction in a time of emergency, how thick do you have to be to still not understand it. there are some people who possibly will never actually grasp it unless they get the virus. Having now seen several people effectively drown while I stand by helpless to do any more for them I can't urge people enough to do their best and try to limit anything that might mean having contact with things outside the home.

I just wish that I went in to a ward tomorrow where people are not dying before they should do, not only dying but in a painful and distressing manner.

NDIY I can see nothing risky in what you are doing and you seem to have understood the risks and mitigated them.

Having spent the better part of the last 30 years as a beat constable I'm I credulous as to why law abiding people can seriously take the side of any idiot who decides to flout the restrictions placed upon us all. Regardless of your politics the requirement is to stay home, except for the specific reasons given. If you dont like it, tough. The police do not have time to go round explaining things that do not need explanation or to engage in arguments with the likes of these idiots.

Go home, stay home, it is simple.

I have been asked to return to my old force during the pandemic, but I have declined, I would not waste my time trying to enforce the restrictions upon people who quite simply should know better.

The next step will be a blanket ban on outdoor activity, due to these morons who cannot abide by the current guidance. Across for my home I watched a dozen men playing football today for two hours. Pure arrogance and stupidity. Hopefully a dose of the virus would smarten them up a little.

Rant over, everyoneneeds to take this a bit more seriously and do as they are told for a change.
