Hi. Im trying to get into fusion 360 but there are so many youtube tutorials that I dont know where to start. So far all seem to assume that we already know the basics of F360, which means I am falling at the first hurdle. Can anyone advise of a simple guide or better still offer some one to one help. This is for hobby use, not work related. Thanks.

You might be better off by using the F360 tutorials and learning, rather than Youtube - although some of those are Autodesk postings.

With F360 open, click the '?' at top right, select 'Learning & Documentation' and then 'Self-Paced Learning'.

Be aware that you may encounter screens that don't reflect the current updated status of the software, although the underlying functionality remains unchanged. Just that some of the menu items are in a different place!

I found that the Youtube videos by Lars Christiansen helped me to start with Fusion 360 after I had previously given up because I couldn't even get a line on the page.

There are three starter videos entitled 'Fusion 360 for Absolute Beginners' parts 1,2 & 3

There are others but I like the way Lars explains things.

Give him a try and I hope it starts to become clear. It helps if you either have no prior knowledge of CAD or you forget everything you already knew.

I agree that Lars' videos are very good but unfortunately they are now 4 years or so out of date so the user interface for the software has evolved. He does cover the basics well though and as I said above, the principles are still the same.

I've only watched lar's ones, a few basic ones for CAD and the 5 or 6 for beginners CAM and can do what I need from that.

It is possible to set it back to the old legacy layout which may help you follow what is being shown.

Fizzy, what is your aim with Fusion 360 ?

I am self taught and learnt how to use it so that I could generate G Code for my CNC Mill. I am no genius with it but can manage to produce most shapes that I want for motorcycle restorations etc. I gave a few of our ME society guys a few lessons last summer, after a while I found that most of the guys had picked it up well.

If you are using it for producing drawings only I don't see much point in learning it. I still have not mastered animations, whenever I try things fly all over the place.

I might be able to help you with the basics.

Thanks all. Bob, this is my exact remit. I only want to get gcode to run in mach3 for my mill, and then only basic shapes. I have produced gcode using other software but you need three different programs to get to the end point whereas f360 should do it all...any help most welcome.

I have been using a site called PRODUCT DESIGN ONLINE on youtube for tutorials. He takes you through from absolute beginner through numerous projects step by step. After a few hours I was amazed at what I was capable of producing.

Quite thorough explanations and also explanations and assistance from other commenters.

I can't recommend the tutorial enough, I found it to be fantastic. It is still using the old layout but still helpful as these changes are explained as you progress through.

Hope this is helpful. I use it for mach 3 on my mill so should be what you need.

Dave
