Not sure where else to post this however I feel it is only right to try.

Can the Tony who emailed me requesting photographs of the CNC Lathe I have for sale on here please supply me with a return contact email address to use . As a minimum I would at least like him to know that I am not ignoring him.

Apologies to all if this is not the correct way to go about it.

Wishing everybody well in these difficult times. May you workshop always be warm.

Thread: Power Feed failure
12/10/2021 20:34:00

OK then

Firstly my apologies for the delay in replying, Work and life got in the way.

The Vfd Is just to convert to single phase.

Speeds are altered with the manual vari speed control.

The transformer still appears to be working fine.

The mill is wired as it came from the dealer and has not been altered by myself. It has however worked perfectly for the last five years or so. The spindle still works fine it is just the 2 off power feed units which now show as having no power ie no green light on the units. These are both powered by a separate 110V transformer.

I have tonight removed the contactor and to my untrained eye the coil appears to be damaged / burnt. Luckily all the information on the unit is still readable if I need to replace with similar from somewhere / somehow. I wouldn't know where to start looking.

I have added photos of the contactor and overall wiring which will hopefully make sense to somebody a lot smarter than me.

I don't have a wiring diagram.

Thankyou to all that have replied with advice and information, it is very gratefully received.20211012_193552.jpgdscn2548.jpg20211012_193939.jpg

Thanks very much for the help.

I will take the contactor off and get the details from it. For the prise of a new one I will swap it over and hopefully be back in action.

Hi Guys

I am very hopeful somebody out there can offer me some advice regarding my power feed. The feed is on my Bridgeport mill. The mill is 3 phase and I run it through a Jaguar Inverter. The power feed side runs on 110V I power the mill through the inverter and everything still works fine Spindle etc.

I was using the power feed on a job taking medium cuts and all was fine with no issues. I then went to proceed with another cut and nothing ! I wasn't using the power feed to the Y axis but this also now has no power.

Opening the Mains power box shows the ( MCB ) ? has tripped. I can reset this and it remains set but still no power. Looking at the contactor to the left hand side it appears seized . The other contractors allow movement of the part circled in the photo ie spring back when pushed ( Not whilst plugged in I may add ) I don't mess in there under power. I can also see and hear the other contactor move when the on switch of the mill is pressed. The power feed contactor does nothing and as I say appears solid. Is it likely that the contactor is the problem or am I just being very hopeful.

I have found the same contactor on line or at least one looking identical with the same code K2-A9 A10. Am I to assume if this if required it will be the same voltage etc. Or will there be variants of this. I am NO electrician.

There are no in line fuses that I can see. I have an old identical power feed which was removed as it has a damaged gear inside but still worked under power. This has no power either and so I am assuming it isn't a power feed unit fault, Also both axis now no longer work.

Very long winded I know but any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thread: Fusion 360 personal use
03/04/2021 15:33:17

I have been on the forum and cannot get any answers as yet. As for contacting the Fusion 360 team directly for an answer I am struggling to find the contact to give a direct question to or to ask for advise.

I followed your advice Jason and also similar from the internet.

My editable folder is empty and my documents do not show the switcher which allows me to change from read only to editable.

Having not used my Fusion 360 account for a while due to work commitments

it became out of date ? I was requested to update to the latest version which I did. All seems well and I now have an up to date personal account with access to all my previous designs and learning samples.

I have a previous design already drawn in cad and have the cam also complete from a while ago, however I now realise that I need to edit the design slightly.

Fusion 360 now shows my CAD design as read only and will not allow me to edit. Is this standard for the latest version or have I done something wrong.

Fusion keeps leading me to the prices page and so I am assuming it is a restriction they have introduced. Can anyone advise please as my only other option as I see it is to redraw my original design from scratch hopefully with no mistakes.

Thread: Copper Plaque Identification
29/09/2020 07:56:24

Thanks Dave

I have been struggling to find any definite links over the last few days. I think the chances of finding a definite connection will be pretty slim. Chadwick is quite a common name in Lancashire it would seem too.

The long shot was hoping somebody would recognise the logo. There is quite a few Mill owners Bleaching works etc etc. I was hoping there would be a link to one of these.

I won't give up just yet though as I am just too intrigued now.

Thanks for the help

Thats given me plenty of ideas for research.

Much appreciated

Ive tried graces guide. The sign was bought on EBAY and came from the Chichester area.

There is a lot of Chadwick references but I am struggling to get a definite connection to a company.

It was a long shot that somebody may have recognised the logo for something I was not familiar with.

Hi Guys

I am well aware that this is a long shot and not typically workshop related however My workshop walls are adorned with industrial signs and company name plates. Babcock and Willcox. Metropolitan vickers etc etc etc.

Since starting this addictive collection I have bought quite a few. My latest was what I thought an interesting copper plaque with a logo at the top. As you can see the directors are mainly named Chadwick.

Would anybody out there by any slim chance have any knowledge or idea as to the signs history.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Thread: SANOU 6 JAW CHUCK
13/05/2020 21:18:31

Thanks guys.

Kind of what I was thinking but good to have a second opinion from wiser folk.

I'll save my pennies for other things.

many thanks

Evening all

I have been looking at replacing my 3 jaw chuck of dubious quality with a 6 jaw after watching a few you tube videos.

Has anyone any experience of the Sanou make as regards quality or the 6 jaw chuck. Am I wasting my money and should stick with my 4 jaw or 3 jaw with all sections turned at one setting.

The videos I have seen show repeatable accuracy with the 6 jaw but not necessarily the same make of chuck.

It is for a Harrison M300

Any advice greatly appreciated,

Dave

Thread: Anyone in NW UK able to offer simple Fusion 360 help?
14/02/2020 10:20:59

I have been using a site called PRODUCT DESIGN ONLINE on youtube for tutorials. He takes you through from absolute beginner through numerous projects step by step. After a few hours I was amazed at what I was capable of producing.

Quite thorough explanations and also explanations and assistance from other commenters.

I can't recommend the tutorial enough, I found it to be fantastic. It is still using the old layout but still helpful as these changes are explained as you progress through.

Hope this is helpful. I use it for mach 3 on my mill so should be what you need.

Thread: Replacement heater switch
29/11/2018 21:26:01
Thanks guys. Switch ordered. Daughter happy.
29/11/2018 17:48:41

Not strictly workshop heating however my daughters electric heater broke today. The rocker switch rocks loosely with no positive locking in either position.

I have the details and have searched the web but cannot find an exact copy matching the details on the original switch without slight differences in Amperage one way or another.

I need a KCD3 ENC1

16A 250 VAC, 10A 125 VAC T105

I can find 16A 250VAC but then only 20A 125VAC.

It appears the original switch is just broken internally and so I am hoping a direct replacement will do the trick.

Would anybody know of a source for a replacement or best to leave well alone. The switch is approximately 10 x 25mm where inserted with 3 spade connections.

There is a small light on the switch also.

Many thanks

Dave

Thread: Another Workshop lighting problem
15/10/2018 16:01:23

I may have the wiring information wrong. I thought that it went from one light and on to the next etc until the last one but without stripping the lights I am not sure. They weren't fitted by myself I am just going from memory when I lined and insulated the ceiling. The cables are in the roof space and there isn't access now.

As for the temperature, I can go into the workshop and the lights work fine, come out after an hour or so for a brew then when I go back in I can get the problem. It is the complete light fitting ( Both Tubes ) that don't work. Not even a flicker as if they are trying to come on. Flick the switch on and off a few times or even come back later and they work fine.

As I say it can be totally random as to which fitting fails. The supply in the workshop is from the house approximately 25 feet away and supplied through 16mm buried cable to a consumer unit in the workshop. A 10 mm cable then carries on to another outbuilding which has its own lighting and consumer unit and gives no issues at all.

I have noticed that the light fittings give off a steady ticking sound for a while when they are switched on for 5 / 10 mins or so. I wasn't sure if it was them just warming up or something ?????

I have had the wiring checked when the replacement consumer unit and a separate breaker were fitted for the workshop supply as per a previous thread of mine. It is only since the light fittings were swapped for the new ones approx 18 months ago that the issue has arrived.

It is more the nagging inconvenience than anything else. I had always assumed that it was just down to the quality of the light fittings but it happened yesterday so thought I would throw it out there.

I will get somebody in to check them incase there is a fault on them somehow.

Many thanks

The workshop is brick and thermollte block construction with cavity wall insulation so never gets too cold to be honest.
