What did they call the process of producing the polished aluminium dash panels with overlapping circles?

Well, according to Wheatley and Morgan's classic, "The restoration of Vintage and Thoroughbred Cars" it's called mottling.

Thanks guys. My late father used to do some of it. He was a Motor Body Builder and one of two companies in OZ reccomended by the Rolls Royce car club. I remember he and his leading hand using an English Wheel making a mudguard for a 20's Hispano Suiza from a photograph.
