Thread: Gearwheel key |

I agree with VE. I ran a competition Rally Car engine with NO key in the Cam pulley to get the valve timing correct and forgot about it until the end of season strip down. No problems.

Thread: If you bought this lathe what would you do? |

The half nuts are probably stuck with a waxy goo. Pull the apron apart and give it a good clean will probably fix that issue.

Thanks guys. My late father used to do some of it. He was a Motor Body Builder and one of two companies in OZ reccomended by the Rolls Royce car club. I remember he and his leading hand using an English Wheel making a mudguard for a 20's Hispano Suiza from a photograph.

Thread: How do I undo this screw? |
22/06/2018 12:35:41 |
Hi Gary You should get 5/16 hex bit with 6mm on the end, grind the 6mm end so that it is flat and force it into the bolt withsome type of lever to apply downforce. Use a suitable spanner to undo.

Thread: Cutting 1.2mm Copper |
30/01/2018 10:57:02 |
Hi Heidi For the rectangles I suggest contacting a local sheetmetal works and getting them to guillotine them for you. For the discs I can only suggest a chassis punch or similar probably available from RS Components.

Thread: What Did You Do Today (2017) |
28/11/2017 12:15:04 |
Hi All A suggestion for you guys. I have recently organized some tours through our National Metrology Lab. here in Melbourne. My experience is that they are happy to show what they are up to as long as the participants have some idea of what they are being shown. I can assure you that they have some amazing gear.\ You may be able to do something similar.

Thread: Australian carmaking runs out of road |

Unfortunately all you had to do to find out what was wrong with Holden and Ford in Australia was to look in the staff carpark. Mostly small Imports. Got to mean something!

Thread: How to cover a wooden bench top with a steel sheet |
23/08/2017 13:08:05 |
Thin steel sheet will "stretch" wherever you hit it with a hammer, imperceptible at first, but it will be cumulative. Whatever you use , make it replaceable.

Thread: Why are my tools too high? |
04/06/2017 12:31:24 |
Hi Chas If your tool is too low, face a piece of bar for a couple of mm then measure the remaining sprig. Shims of 1/2 that diameter will put your tool on centre. It may work the other way if too high but I havent tried it ( you will have to be careful that you dont knock the sprig off as the tool will be pushing into it.

Hi Guys My name is Roger Baker. I have been perusing the forum for some time and decided to join up. I am a retired Motor Mechanic and Radio Tech with not a lot of interest in Modelling but still interested in the engineering of things. I have a Tiawanese 9x20 lathe and a Fugi mill and enjoy making things for Amateur Radio activities down here in Australia. |
