Small universal/ball joint

I'm looking for a small ball joint that I can attach to a flat fixed surface, with the rod attached to the ball so that the rod can move in all directions. The end result is the sort of thing you would have with the aerial of a old style transistor radio.

I can find ball joints for attaching to the end of rods to act as linkages, but none which can be attached to a flat surface.

Any suggestions?

Camera? Dash cam? Sat nav? All, or most, use ball joints.

Is this the sort of thing you are thinking of?

Thank you for that link. I'd wondered what'd happened to Woodside since the '80s when I last used 'em!

Peter,

Have a look at this Amazon product with a swivel ball joint. It may be the wrong scale for your application but the principle of a slot down the side of the ball cup to allow the "vice" (or your rod) to lean over should give you the flexibility you seek.

I got one out of Aldi some time back and it's useful.

May be worth looking into the model boat world. Many varieties for a limited angular displacement. Some very simple.

Some camera tripods, the collapsible/compact ones, have a ball joint for the camera mounting plate. Also some go-pro and dashcam mounts.
