My non ferrous metal supplier has some with a very small pattern, and about 1.5 mm thick, but being on the opposite side of the rock, it's not that much use to you. The other way is to make your own diamond plate by milling diagonal grooves on a sheet of aluminium, say about 3 mm thick.

Model Sport do it for RC cars although I am not sure what scale it is. Failing that many small scael railway suppliers do plastic sheet.

Blackgates and Polly both do diamond chequer plate though it is really the wrong way round as the embossed diamonds stand proud rather than the ribs inbetween. Milling also produces the wrong pattern you really need to make it with inset ribs so they stand upsmiley

How about making or buying a steel plate and roll forming thin aluminium sheet into it to get the raised pattern?

I used that method on my model boat, bonded on with Araldite, then painted matt black then fine sanded the paint off the diamond ribs. The alloy diamond mesh was from a car body repair kit. Mike Checker Plate

I am fairly certain that a small set of rolls with a special patterned roller was described in ME not so many years ago. Could be useful info for someone who likes to make all their own tools to do jobs.

Hello Geoff, Mill a copper electrode and spark erode a piece of steel sheet to produce elegant chequer plate.
