![]() 1071 forum posts | I have seen steel blades with brazed carbide inserts in some of industrial catalogs but only in sizes too large for the hobbyist lathes. You might consider grinding a notch in one of your cutoff blades and brazing in a piece of carbide. I have seen some blades for self-grip inserts that have small shanks to retrofit the Aloris AXA and BXA parting tool holders. If Shars Tool serves the UK you could look there. http://www.shars.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?cat=401&p=2&q=parting+blade |

1001 forum posts 49 photos | All the major proper brand names do specific carbide inserts meant for aluminium, its what I buy 90% of the time. Stick with neutral it will still leave a burr and can turn up to a shoulder with it and face off to length where critical measurements needed.

![]() 7468 forum posts 230 photos | If you'r real stingy like me, you can find an old circular saw blade and cut a section out of that, ready made parting tool with carbide tip already brazed on. You may need to touch it on a green grit wheel to square off the tip. I'v got a number of blades from builder's skips. Ian S C |

![]() 2376 forum posts 800 photos | If the OP can't find aluminium specific tips to suite may I point out the I use the general purpose coated tips in my Q-cut parting tool and these are fine with aluminium alloys provided I drip in my standard 50/50 straight cutting oil/paraffin mix. This prevents a build up on the edge, which does sometimes happen with certain alloys if I cut dry. HTH, Rod |
