Been skulking on the forum for a while and have gleaned a wealth of information from you all. Been 38 years in the offshore oil and gas industry working as an Instrument Tech (Tiffy) and retiring in a few weeks. Just bought a Stuart 10V kit as a first project. Main interests are motorcycles (Scott Squirrel 1927, Yamaha SR500 and a Harris F1), model engineering, anything mechanical and playing traditional fiddle music. Machines bought for retirement are the WM250VF lathe and the WM 14 mill.

Cheers the noo

Hi Peter, Yes it was. Nearly 35 years on the Delta. Learned my trade on the old huff and puff instrumentation. Was your brother called Colin? He was my supervisor for a few years on Delta.

Welcome John.

I am sure that any posts on your various interests will be more than welcomed by the "characters" on this site.

The traditional fiddle music interest caught my eye. I love it and often listen in the shop to my favorite Canadian fiddler; Cape Breton's (Canada) Natalie MacMaster. Although this not really MEW, shall we call it "Music to Turn By"? This is Natalie and her children recorded in Dublin. **LINK**

Hi John,

Small world this, You cannot beat the old huff and puff instrumentation, far more interesting then these new fangled PLC's.

I have done 3 BSA and 2 Land rovers over the last 10 years been retired coming up to seven years and have never looked back.

1 Auxiliary Fire service B40.

1 Military B40.

1 Military M20

1 Military S111 lightweight.

1 Civvy S11A.

Now "slowly" making 5" gauge "Speedy" loco.

Have a very happy retirement you will find there are not enough hours in the day.

Hi Bill,

Yes, seen it before. Amazing playing by the youngsters. Their mum is a good teacher though. Did a tour with the Ythan Fiddlers 2 years ago in Nova Scotia and had an amazing time. Big fan of Gerry Holland.

Cheers

John

Welcome John ,
Spent some time on the Bravo, Charlie, & Delta myself latterly, plus time on the Cormorant Alpha & North Cormorant covering S/NVQ assessments for Mech Techs/Supervisors, spent my last year before retirement in Aberdeen & on the Scott for Nexen / BG group on developing Co. management procedures & follow up implementation & assessments.
I also have the WM25V-F & the WM 16, both good machines. Have also completed the S10V so if I can help drop me a pm.

George.

Hi John,

Welcome to the forum. I worked on all of the Forties platforms as a driller Night Toolpusher and Toolpusher/Drilling Supervisor so you might well have bumped into me at some time in the past I was there from 1980-3 and worked for BP until 1990 when I went to work for myself as a consultant.

Names that you might remember are Mike Diamond, He was a Tiffy Eex Sea Conquest, Ian Carter, Old Toolpusher. Alan Miller BP Toolpusher.

All this N sea nostalgia is making me feel very old, was a methods engineer at Seal Sands building the things, well 2 of them. Now all being scrapped. As an apprentice worked at a foundry setting up foundry equipment for building what was to become the Hillman Imp, now that is a classic car !. I also live in NE Scotland, Heard of the Ythan fiddlers but more familiar with the pubs with similar names.
