Just "window" shopping a moment ago and came across this - very good value (I thought). I was quite taken by the variable approach angle of the pinion. I could almost contemplate designing a model / tooling item around this.

Just a thought you understand thinking

Looks like a good start for a electric or IC powered locomotive.

Reduction Gear for a Power Hacksaw, Die-Filing Machine, etc

... Should be simple to integrate a crank-pin or eccentric into that big gear.

Would this be sintered rather than machined?

Thats what I did for my Tidman engine, went looking on e-bay and found a set of 2:1 Mod 1.5 bevels delivered for £6, hardened too. Not worth buying the metal let alone the cutters for a one off

Exactly what I used in my 3 1/2" gauge loco. I plan to replace the rest of the gearbox with toothed belts.

I've bought a pair for my 5" gauge one, when I eventually get round to it...

Building my own shaper I bin trying to find a method for raising the table,I had thought of using a set of mitre gears so it could be raised remotely as space is limited to get my digits in, this looks like a possible solution and as I never throw anything away I have some duff angle grinders which should give me the bits I need

Nice one Rik

This may be of interest ...

One tooth of a sintered Timing Pulley: MXL profile = 0.080' pitch

[ it gives some idea of the surface finish ]
