Has anyone any idea of the sort of charge to transit the Suez Canal? With 20,000 containers on it what sort of price for each? £5 makes it £100k. £50 makes it £1m
One news report said typical charge to use the canal is $300,000 per ship. That would tie in with the the figures Michael Gilligan posted saying Egypt is losing $15 million a day in revenue. That would equal roughly 50 ships a day at about $300,000 each. Nice work if you can get it. With 20,000 containers on board the Evergreen ship, that would work out about $15 per container. Or less than 10 cents per mini lathe. Edited By Hopper on 30/03/2021 06:41:40 |

135 forum posts 1 photos | Its not untypical for a single shipping container transit cost from China to UK to cost approx $5,000 one way (assuming 50 lathes, thats a mere $100/lathe) So 20,000 containers = $100 million revenue for Evergreen Think I might sell my house and buy me a container ship

2444 forum posts 139 photos | My daughter-in-law's dad, who worked as a container ship's master, told me the problem that gave him nightmares was re-establishing manual control. The ships are so heavily computerised that this can take half a day. The process of entering port was in many cases software-controlled, and he lived in fear of someone having built a new jetty across the approach route to berth since the last software update installation. He also said that the person in the worst case with the Ever Given was the master of the ship following it. > |
