Printing may be disabled, but you can still capture the screen image using <shift-prtscr>, then paste the image into an image editor for cropping and printing.
A bit more work than just printing each page, but still won't stop you producing a stand-alone edition of the magazine to view offline.
I think the model engineers who contributed to this magazine were interested in CNC!

You could all capture the screen image with ME and MEW and do the same.
Or is that to much trouble for these two magazines but ok for the other one?

![]() 126 forum posts 11 photos | With the Digital Machinist magazine, it can be zoomed out to full screen which makes for a decent sized screen grab.
However, with ME/MEW, even if the window is enlarged to full screen, the magazine image doesn't fill more than about a 1/4 of the total screen area. Plus the resolution is lousy.
So yes, it is too much trouble to do that for these magazines in the current electronic form.

7 forum posts | David, the current version reader for the digital version will not work on an iPad because it uses flash. Do you know, or could you find out if the new version reader that you say they are now testing will work on an iPad. Much easier to carry the iPad to the workshop than PC and monitor ![]() |

94 forum posts 1 photos | Hi David - You are right the American Digital Machinist digital edition will not print or save from with in the program but that would not inhibit a reader bent on printing the high quality screen display of each page. I just wanted to point out that high quality on screen looked good! It is more than possible that the ability to print and save have been deselected by the publisher. There are news letters and trade magazines that look to be a similar format which you can save and print. I am not arguing for piracy as we must have a paid editor and staff to ensure a continuity of good quality articles.
I hope there is some way to lock the digital subscriptions to the individual or their hardware as in the eBooks. That way I might get approval for an eBook reader!
Kind regards - Pat

![]() 3988 forum posts 1799 photos | Hi well I've just done a screen capture of MEW and one of DM. on the DM there is a margine with an advert on the left hand side about an 1/8 of the screen wide. below is one I've done for MEW.
This takes up almost all the screen width, it will zoom in further, but then you have to scroll from side to side. Regards Nick. Edited By Nicholas Farr on 07/06/2011 22:05:22 |

Printing from a screen dump is likely to be low res because most monitors work on 72 dots per inch while printers are usually at least 3oo dots.

I did a screen dump of MEW 176 front cover.
I might try Digital Machinist but obviously I can't load it up here but my method might work.

Yes, I did a full screen page dump of Digital Machinist.
Perfectly readable.
I can't post it here because of copyright.

829 forum posts 1 photos | I see David has pipped me to the post. I was about to express doubts that people are really getting the resolution they think they are with a screen capture. I think David has used somewhat extreme numbers .... monitor resolution is more typically in the 90 -120 dpi range and 300 dpi for printing is a bit perfectionist; you can get decent enough printing at 200 dpi. Nonetheless, I think his point is well made. Screen capture is absolutely not a good substitute for a decent print option (in any context). |

![]() 3988 forum posts 1799 photos | Hi David, yes I saw that and I've managed to do one as well, but havn't uploaded it, just wanted to see if I could do a a full one.
Martin, if you have a wheel mouse, you can use the wheel to zoom in and out once you have zoomed onto a single page.

![]() 5068 forum posts 3 photos | Why are we having to jump thru hoops ? We get or pay for the digital issues, they do allow is to print them out even if it's one page at a time. The problem is print quality which to put it mildly - sucks. If My Hobby Store put a printed issue out in this format it either wouldn't be sold or there would be complaints. So why do they do this with the digital issue ? it's paid for, it's goods under contract and not fit for purpose. End of story, no limp excuses needed - sort it. John S. |

Absolutely agree John, I am so fed up with lame excuses for what can only be described as abysmal copy! The digital issues for me do not replace the printed materiel but provide a useful, quick reference to past articles. That said, If we are provided with a digital copy as part of ourt subscription, then it should be useable. That also means that we should be able to print out parts of articles that are of readable quality. Of all the test prints that I have done, the quality varies from barely acceptable to totaly unuseable. I appreciate that this site is still in a development phase and is in all respects quite immature in its technology, that said, with all that is available for the publishing of digital content, there is little excuse for the poor publishing quality. In this era of technological ability, there really is no excuse for the quality we see in the digital issues. |

And Android-based machines are starting to outsell IOS-based machines, so the market for putting it on Android will actually be bigger. Regards, Tony |
