It's nice having pairs of M&W and Mitutoyo calipers just because they are so nice to use. Confession... for the last year or so I've just had an old unbranded vernier calipers from Halfords to hand. It's been useful mire than once and the battery hasn't gone flat Neil |

I didn't realise you can get ones that short! That could be handy for getting in awkward places...
Iain Hi Iain, I think there was only one trader selling this size and being that I was just about spent out and this was the cheapest one, I bought it as all the others were 4" and a significantly dearer. It was at the time when they were becoming a must have tool and a number of the traders wouldn't take credit cards for small value purchases. Regards Nick. |

![]() 1078 forum posts | It sounds a bit trivial but its actually quite annoying; the M&W calipers I have don't have auto-wake, so I have to turn them on every time. I know that sounds pathetic but it makes it annoying enough that I tend to use my cheaper ones more often than not. Maybe that means they will have a better battery life but so far that hasn't proven to be the case. |

But that is the only time the flip up display feature brings any benefit to an otherwise very ordinary digital caliper. Ian P

I’ve got to agree that the display flip switch should be built into the hinge so it’s automatic. Hey ho. |

Garry C While verniers don’t go wrong as easily as digis (and don’t need a battery), many on here are getting on a bit and prefer the digital calipers, for ease of reading in particular, but also for instant choice of units, setting zeros wherever we need, etc. I don’t think there are any vernier equivalent to the very useful DROs on our machines?🙂 |

Cheers, Tim I suspect your caliper joins my 150mm rules. I have several, but always struggle to find one to use. 300mm ones hang on their nail until I need them..... |

IF only I'd taken off the safety cover (Plastic drain pipe ) on the big external one, it would have been obvious where it was! Another jog on the Round Tuit! Howard |

I'm 100% with this, I find it annoying beyond all reason that I put them down and turn my back for a few minutes by which time the screen is blank. If the "ON" button was a bit more enthusiastic it would help. It would also help if the delay before auto-turn off was a more sensible timeout, say 15 or 20 mins. It can't be beyond the wit of man (i.e. Moore and Wright) to re-program their otherwise nice calipers to be a bit more user friendly. In days of yore I had a pair of Mitutoyo ones which not only self turned off, but re-zeroed when you pressed the ON button, Now those really were annoying. So I bought a pair of (even more) expensive Starrett ones, which turn on automatically (retaining their zero setting) when moved. Much improved, but they still don't like being dropped. |
