Not so much a comment on 'first wage' (but it was £13/10/0 per month in Sept '62, plus £3/7/6 a week living allowance as I was away from home as an engineer cadet with a shipping company - remember them, we used to have lots of them, back in the days when we had a merchant navy) - more a comment on the VAT rate in 1973 of just 10%. Wow, we didn't know we were born!

Been told now we have to have the VAT rate where it is because our rulers in the EU insist that is what it must be and we are not free to change it. If that is the case then we know what to do come the ref.

!0%. Wonderful!

Chris

Hi there not been very well. It will continue. I struggle to stand up and tend to fall over. Blood test results later today, might need another transfusion. Already had 5 this year. I just hope the cancer is not back.

You need to set up so you can sit at the lathe and work bench. Keep warm , and don't over do it. Best wishes.

Apparently mainly vitamin d deficiency making me very tired. They have given me a supplement and I already have the health lamp for vitamin d. Main problem is the front room is like the black hole of Calcutta at this time of year.

Troglodyte, you'll have to get out of the cave every now and then.

Look after yourself David.

Keep taking the tablets, perhaps you need to migrate to sunnier climes for winter.

Hi All,

I've had a part built stuart 10v for about a year now.

I bought it from this forums for sale ads.

I thought I'll have a good look at this and then complete it.

All I have done is look at it!!!!! ......I'm not going to finish it.

It's currently listed in the for sale ads, includes all parts and the work done is to a high standard

Also included, drawings, the Andrew Smith book and a stuart catalogue. It needs a good home!!!!

regards geoff

About 1/2 weeks wages after tax.

My first weeks wage was £3 - 10s - 6d, ( £3 - 521/2p in decimal ) Mill office boy, Dorman Long & Co, Sept.1963. ... & £2 of that went back to mum for 'board & keep' ... Ahhh the good old days... crying 2 thinking ... probably a lot will disagree... dont know

No doubt this will start a raft of ... 'my first wage was' .... wink

George.

Hi, in my fist job in '68, I was earning £3.00 and something p/w and after the first year it went up by a pound. Didn't get a third year as I moved on, but got a three fold rise to £12.00 and something p/w. In '73 was earning about £16.00 p/w and I was still classed as junior fitter.

Regards Nick.
