Hi Lambton, well I believe Chronos was at the Midland show in 2012 and they are on the list in the advert in the October 2012 edition of EIM. They were not at the 2013 show and it doesn't look as if they will be at this years show.

Up here in sunny 'straya the Model Engineering exhibitions are few and far between. The retail shops selling stuff are also few and far between, and they mainly sell the same sort of stuff. So if you don't buy stuff online, you probably don't buy much at all.

If you want, lets say some decent drills, decent files, decent taps/dies etc, it's pretty much obligatory to carefully select your seller, hold your breath and dive in, buying "name" brands.

You guys with a choice of shows to go to don't know how lucky you are.

Oh and by the way, before you start complaining that such and such an exhibition is a 2 hour drive away, so you can't go as often as you would like. Melbourne is a 8 or 9 hour drive, and Sydney is a 2 day drive from my humble abode, Perth is 3 to 4 days drive away

At least we still have some 'quality' manufacturers here in the land of the kangaroo. Our Frost drill bits and cutters are equal to anything in the world and worth every cent. Won't find them in bunnings though!

With all the 'downsizing' of Oz manufacturing, how long can this last though?

Albury Tafe just dropped their engineering courses, moved them to the Wagga Wagga campus, so sniffing around to see what kit they are disposing off.

We live in sad (scary) times.

I recall going to the Midlands Exhibition about 25 years ago and seeing a nice turret mill on special show offer.. I spent some time browsing and eventually thought to purchase and asked the young, smartly dressed salesman the price to be told it was £7450. I immediately walked away muttering to myself that these were industrial prices and not for model engineers. I mentioned this on the way home in the car with my fellow visitors only to be corrected that the price was £745. I have been kicking myself ever since.( the problem being hard of hearing on one side)

Perhaps my biggest purchase was my Warco BG600 lathe. I saw this in a MEW add and rang them, only to find that their only showrooms were either in the Midlands or at their factory. I spoke to Mr. Warren himself and after a short time to consider, placed the order. I would not usually advise anyone to buy without seeing the machine first but on this occasion, I have had no regrets and the service has been excellent. I have now been using the lathe for about 7 years without problems.
