148 forum posts 4 photos | I called into cromwells they did not recognise the make of insert and had nothing like it for size. So I came away empty handed. I think I will buy a parting off tool from Cromwells it may be more expensive initially but if I want inserts or parts for it I can just call into my local branch and talk to the Guy face to face. All I have got now is a load of bits that are no good to me with out forking out more money. I will have a look round Ruforth on Saturday and if I get no joy there its Cromwells on Monday. 148 forum posts 4 photos | The parting off tool is one of RDG tools own make. Its a 10mm holder with a 19mm blade it came with two 3mm carbide inserts. Both inserts shattered in the first hour of use parting off a piece of 3/4"stainless steel bar stock. I sharpened a HSS parting tool and finished the job off with that. If I could part it of with a HSS cutter then the carbide tips should of done the job. I do not want to buy any more of these tips so I bought a different companies after asking my question here about different companies being different size inserts. I now have two inserts that do not fit the tool. Cromwell do not recognise the broken tips and don't have that size.So I am stuck with a holder no inserts to fit. I have two inserts from a different supplier that don't fit the holders blade. At the moment I am just wasting money and getting no were. I don't know how to post pictures its to complicated on here.

By the way the ones sold at Ruforth arent cheap but they are good.

Every other forum I visit has a search bar underneath the box you write your post in I just select a picture from my desk top and insert it into the post it takes about ten seconds. |

Shaun I am not bothered how much they cost as long as they work. I am not looking for cheap I don't mind paying for stuff that works. Thanks for the invitation. I will take your advice and check Ruforth out on Saturday I will go early then carry on to York for the day with the Wife. |

300 forum posts | The lady concerned is called Jenny ( see web for JB cutting tools of dronsfield ). Her parting tools are good and usually very reasonably priced. She , or her son, are usually there unless there's a major show on. words of warning re Rufforth- go water proof and wear boots. If Jenny can't help then there's a guy from Sheffield who's always there, think it's Anchor tools his firm. He usually has complete parting blades and inserts. Ian |

148 forum posts 4 photos | Got it my parting tool blade is GTN3 19mm high. I guess most of you had all ready told me that. Well got there in the end. I am going to invest in a GTN2 blade then I can use either size insert. Thanks for the input. I am off to learn how to part off properly. Cheers. |

1505 forum posts 56 photos | The main reason for carbide parting inserts grenading is that they mustn't be below centre. If they're below centre at the end of the cut, the work climbs up over them and simply pulls the end off the tip. A few (up to 4) thou above centre will protect the tip unless you're on a really rigid setup, when you can use less. Then They'll cut very well. |
