Sad to say, this answers the original question.

I read many of his articles ,and while they were way above my standard, the were always well worth reading,as I,m sure others will agree. Such people come along, once in a lifetime, and if you are lucky enough to know them or meet them, that is a bonus.

Others may put it better, all I can say is May God rest him,he will be sadly missed.sad

Ohhh wow... this is so nice to read... so nice to know that what he loved to do was appreciated by others... I didn't know if any one would even reply as I noticed that the thread was started back in 2010... he still tinkered in his workshop at home literally right up until the day he passed away last week..it was just him.. it was what he did.... he was always doing something always had some project or another on the go.. I have always looked up to him and always thought that he must've been a very clever man.and your words confirm that to me.. i always said to him.. 'if only i had half the brains that you have. I might just do ok..'.but I think they missed me.. and went to my daughter instead. I am wondering I don't really know how these things work but I wonder is there any way of me starting a thread of my own on here.and maybe include pictures.. or are you not able to include pictures. Just so I could see what responses i were to get.. it is so nice hearing how my dad has helped other people in their works.. ohh and before I go for the moment.. can I just ask.. would you all be ok if I were to print out all your lovely comments about him.. so I could perhaps put them together for his funeral perhaps.. And just a great big thank you replying back to me.. I really really do appreciate it.. many thanks Tanya

Hello Tanya,

I'm sorry to hear that Peter has passed on. He was a prolific contributor to Model Engineers' Workshop, with some real ingenuity like his spark eroder and resistance soldering device. He also wrote many articles for Model Engineer. I took on MEW a few years after he ceased to write for us, but I greatly enjoyed his articles as a reader. Peter's articles were always interesting and thought provoking.

Please fell free to pass on our appreciation of Peter's work from my self and my colleagues at MyTimeMedia.

Certainly you can use my posted responses Tanya. I'm glad to hear Peter was still able to be active in his workshop. It adds immensely to the quality of life to be able to make or fix things or develop ideas in a workshop, I find. Best regards Jeff Dayman Waterloo Ontario Canada

Ditto. Model engineering is a very rewarding pastime so it's nice to know he was still active.

I'm afraid I don't recall his articles, but would it not be a great memorial if his publications could be made available somewhere on line?

I would love to do something like that... but I just wouldn't know where and how to start...

Tanya if you want to start another thread and add some photos then have a look at this thread on how to add them to an album and then include in your post.

Neil may be able to do something with the publications by hosting on this site.

A great and respected writer, he will be sadly missed, his family should be proud of him as I am sure they are.

Condolences

@Tanya - is there scope to reprint the original books?

I'd certainly be up for seeing them republished.

All his MEW articles and many of his ME contributions are available to digital subscribers in the archive.

I expect my dad would've kept a copy somewhere and hopefully it will be saved to his computer or disc still.. but obviously its early days at the moment so i haven't looked into any of his personal things yet.. it's hard to know when is right.. but I would like to celebrate the things he has done.. so I will start looking when I can.. I will try that link and have look and try and work out thank you..when I do, so hopefully if I can try and give him the tribute I believe he deserves.. thank you all so much for responding to me.. i hope you dont mind if when i do go through things if i were to ask for your help in uploading if i were to get stuck at all..hopefully with your help I may be able to get his articles and books out there again 😊..

If of interest, I have just added one of Peter's devices to my photo album. Last one of album, a Co-Axial centring device which I exhibited at MEX 2010.

Hello all.. I don't know if you will be interested to hear, but I have found hard copies of his books etc.. (not looked through the mountains of discs yet in his computer room, so we may find it on disc at some point too which I would like to think we will) so maybe in time we may be able to find a way of getting them out there again.

That would be wonderful for the community, Tanya ... and a very fitting memorial.

With my best wishes

Glad to hear you have found copies of Peter's books! I would also be interested in copies if you re-publish them Tanya. Best regards Jeff Dayman
