Our old lab plumber (we now have a new lab) had a phrase that always made me chuckle. When describing the reason for a blocked toilet he used to say “trouble is it’s a case of a 3 inch pipe and a 4 inch A..e ole “ I would never have described him as one of life’s literary genius’ but on that particular subject he reached the heights.

regards Martin

We had a sign in the maintenance department which read;

"On this bench the most highly skilled engineers in the factory strip down the most complicated equipment. In future we hope to recruit another highly skilled engineer who knows how to put the blooming stuff back together."

I rang a mate of mine the other day. I asked him what he was doing & he replied; "I'm studying the effect of hot water on metals and ceramics under controlled conditions" .

Sounds interesting I said........Turns out he was doing the washing up under the watchful eye of his Mrs!

Always remember with a smile a comment by Barry Sheene on a TV broadcast of motor racing in Australia. The commentators were discussing the proposed team being developed to run factory-backed Ford sedans in the local V8 championship series, Barry's suggestion was:

Ford Australia Racing Team

Much laughter ensued.

A character greatly missed in the motor sport world.

In a similar vein. The company I worked for was based near the Channel Tunnel and had a satellite factory near Le Touquet in France for which we provided engineering support. We set up a Fast Action Response Team which was "discharged" when they needed help.

And I completely agree about Bazza, hard to believe it was 20 years ago the other day that he left us.

I had only just started teaching IT when my then Head came to me highly amused by this leaflet suggesting a discussion group (pre internet of course) to help Head teachers understand this strange new subject. He wondered if he was the only one to notice the acronym for the discussion group Secondary Headteachers and IT?
