So, it not just the bottom end of the hobby market that gets the rubbish designs, built-in hazards and cheap parts?🙂

A month and a half and still not been able to run it safely or satisfactorily? Or are these faults a bit exaggerated?

It's nice to know that british engineering standards have been maintained over the last 60 years

Although if you look at the advert on the warco site

You've got a full sized industrial horizontal and vertical milling machine

...and you just plug it into the wall like a kettle...

So there's bound to be a few niggles...

Technically speaking, the "You're having a laff mate" relay may be tripping out

Don't get me wrong, you probably have the resources and knowledge to sort things out

If we look at this picture

A big gorgeous amazing machine, a proper industrial powerhouse

with a wee skinny lonely wire dangling out the back to the kettle plug socket

It's a big ask

I'll be as happy as the next bloke to see her up and running once your niggles are sorted btw

I've made a video. Slightly surprised to find that I sound a bit like that David Attenborough bloke, maybe I have a budding career doing voice overs?

The end float was rectified pretty easily, making and fitting the stepped key will be a bit more time consuming but you sound determined to get things working smoothly.
I used to have a Victoria UV that had a fair bit of backlash in the knee function but it was never any problem with the weight always preventing any movement, + the gib lock for extra security if required.

Interesting video, Robin ... Thanks for sharing it yes

I must say that I find your generosity to Warco almost overwhelming ...

I would be livid if I had paid a U.K. dealer to supply a machine in that condition, when they proudly advertise :

  • Every milling machine we supply is fully checked and tested by a member of our qualified team, and is supplied with an individual accuracy test report.

If I'd paid a lot of money for a good machine I would check it over before running it too

First you get to know it properly and second you can save an awful lot of big trouble later by finding small trouble issues at the start

I wouldn't have a clue about the electrics though

But once fixed it will feel wonderfully tight.

If I had never felt it loose then I would not appreciate it smiley

I would be requesting another gear (with the correct keyway) or a shaft with the correct keyway and key!

Just goes to demonstrate that chinese machines can be poor, even at those prices. I just wonder what else in the way of defects are lurking, hidden away until you search them out!

Once he's got it all sorted and showers of chips are flying about the guys from Warco will give him a shout to ask him for help and advice

Excellent attitude Robin, you'll have a fantastic machine when you're done with it! And yes you do indeed sound like Richard Attenborough.

Is that a Warco surface Grinder in the background? I'd be interested on your thoughts of that machine?

Me too, Ady ... but I would be doing it in the reasonable expectation that everything should be fine.

Gosh, they did eventually get some stock of those !

I tried to buy one for my last employment, probably around 20 years ago now. Warco accepted the order, but the machine never turrned up - always "awaiting delivery of stock" when queried.

After several months, they offered an ex-school Spanish Ingar machine of similar capacity and for a similar price instead. The Ingar performed very well (so much so that I bought one of the same model from Ebay for home use), but I did wonder if the Warco machine would have performed as well.

I have not (up to now) seen any mention of anyone actually having got or used one, so will be interested to see how you get on with it.

I would be expecting a visit from a Warco 'engineer' first thing Monday morning to sort out this mess.

Been watching this with anticipation as I have ordered the HV from Warco for mid February delivery!! How are things going with the teething problems?
Best Regards, John.
