4655 forum posts 304 photos | It never ceases to amaze me at how fast the human brain compensates for changes. I am long sighted in one eye and short sighted in the other. I can see without glasses and the image size, although out of focus matches eye for eye. If I hold up a pair of my glasses to look through them from arms length, the images are different size by a factor of 2. The instant I put the glasses on the images match. |

Rob, yes they have to issue you with the prescription. You or the govt are paying for the eye test. Tony Thanks Tony - I never thought of it that way. Rob |

P.S. __ Yes I use an Optivisor, and a range of other high quality magnifiers. |

Impossibly tricky for my eyes, as I have fixed-focus [cataract replacement] lenses installed

When the optician gives me my prescription I take it home and insert the details on Glassed Direct platform and a few days later the glasses arrive.
I've never had the nerve to ask the optician for my prescription - do they have to give it to you? Somehow seems slightly unfair when they do the eye test and then you go somewhere else for the glasses, but given the prices they charge for frames, I could get over that reservation. Rob Rob, My experience of some opticians shops, they try to put pressure on to select frames immediately after the eye test but insisted on having my prescription, made excuses and left! Input to Glasses Direct and got 2 pairs for less than 20 quid, using Martin Lewis' blagged code. No pressure recent years so there must have been a lot of complaints. John |

![]() 678 forum posts | I went to SpecSavers, chose their frames with the biggest lenses, told them I wanted bifocals with the top lens putting me in focus at 1 foot and the bottom lens at 6 inches. They didn't tell me I was stupid or that it would damage my eyesight, they asked me where I wanted the break between the lenses to occur and then made them for me. They were wonderful and years later, no harm done but I depend on them for close work, cannot live without the blessed things. All they want is your money so be imaginative |

681 forum posts 260 photos | The last time I used SpecSavers, they wanted to charge me MORE to use my existing frames. Naturally, I told them to stick it. I don't need opticians any more, as now I've had both eyes done for cateracts, I only need cheap, off the shelf glasses for reading/close work. My long distance vision is probably the best it has ever been. |
