He could take no more & to top it off he drank Bovril from his flask too. At the funeral his loyal wife made a speech. She said i cannot understand why Paddy did this he made his sandwiches & flask up himself. Steve. |

2661 forum posts 294 photos | Personal hate is call systems where to save money the caller ends up hanging ona line waiting to speak to someone. The time wasted nationally is eye watering and must cost the country more than any saving on staff. There are some fundamental nonsenses in our modern western societies. The concept of GDP asa measure of a nations wealth - has nothing to do with productivity just a measure of spending within the nation and really only a way of creating unnecessary jobs and cycling tax from the populace. Balance of payments/trade is the only real measure of wealth. Here we have got so decadent that we are incapable of basic food security with more than 50% imported...worse when we were subjected to agri limits and set-aside payments. That's enough of that or I'll get into my tirade and the thing gets political and closed down. The best measure of a nations success should be raising intelligence, ability and education. To improve education we really should look at parenting classes for the so-called disadvantaged and disposing of meaningless jobs so 1 parent can stay home for a decent amount of time and be a parent. Instead we seem to measure success by the acquisition of 'stuff' and 'having it large' and binge drinking holidays most of which involve spending money in other countries. pgk

2661 forum posts 294 photos | I recall a professional colleague who started a consultancy advising on making more profit. The basis of this was that 90% of profit comes from the top 10% of clients and he would show you how to soak them for more. 2 flaws. One that if he was that good then he should be growing his own business instead of wasting my time and secondly that i'd prefer to be so good and efficient and fair on my fees that i gained 20% top customers and 180% profit (ignore the dubious math) pgk |

Grumpy old got? Guilty as charged m'lud. By coincidence the following appeared today on the firefox page Bwahaha. Luvvit. "Too many jobs feel meaningless because they are." That pretty much nails it. When making a cup of coffee is regarded as a skilled trade aka "barista" there is not much meaningfulness left. |

How to insult the memory of the people who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting the privileges we take for granted that others dream of. Way to go..... I agree 100% with Bazyle regarding the army. If macho young blokes the world over refused to go killing people and getting themselves killed on behalf of some megalomaniac, who will hide somewhere in a deep hole until the killing is over, then the world would be a much better place. Sad to say that it needs to happen everywhere before wars can end. |

Re parsimony. I read the following some time ago:- An engineer is someone who can do for 50p what any old fool can do for a pound. Dave
Unless they are German automotive engineers, in which case they will do it for €2.22. |

They are there to protect your country. your family and also your right to make such statements in public . (Try that in Hong Kong nowadays) If some of the youth of today were conscripted for a year or two to learn a bit about cameraderie, discipline and maybe to learn about their own worth and potential then there might be a few less miscreants roaming around. As a disclamer: I served 33 years in the ADF, Never killed anybody in all that time and only got close to being killed when an officer who could not read a map misguided my landrover to a place where 84mm mortar bombs were faling like snowdrops all around. In an idealistic world, Vladimir Putin and Boris Trump would sorft it out in a boxing ring, winner takes all. Unfortunately I can't see this happening. Also this leaves the Chinese referee a bit suspect

Come the revolution comrades when the oppresson of the proletariate is finally realised, where they rise up against the prerogative and use their entitlement to sieze power and purge the poison of capitalism to install a truly socialist state. Workers of the world unite! ..the only problem is that it just starts again: Liberte, egalite, fraternite... hasn't egalite'd that long - plenty of social disadvantage. We're no better despite Cromwell or look at the great marxist state and it's oligarchs. There's always those too gullible and those too greedy and those too lazy. pgk |

7227 forum posts 21 photos | In Product Cost, I was taught that the cost of an article consisted of Material, labour and overheads. So if anyone was not actually producing, they were an overhead. BUT, you do need folk to sell and service your product, so some level of overheads, other than utilities is needed for the enterprise to be viable. But, my view is that a lot of jobs would be unneeded, if we weren't so lazy, unskilled, or disabled. For over forty years I maintained my, and others cars. Now they are much too complicated for me to do that, (Lack of skill and facilities on my part! ) Plus, lying on cold concrete is no longer as thrilling as it used to be! Electronics are now WAY beyond me, so another lack of skill / facilities. Some, but not by any means all, evils are a necessity, it seems. Howard |
