Hi John, These are JW Youngs and I'm pretty sure they are pre-war reels pattern 1A etc .If I can work out how to post photos from my computer I'll show you the reels I'm talking about. My thread gauge shows 48 tpi WW and the calipers show .1120 or 7/64 Hi Boris, to the best of my knowledge Youngs used BA threads on their reels Youngs went out of business a few years back. I would not say 100% they never used Whitworth but I have never come across it on their reels. As far as Unified threads I am confident you can ignore them on any UK manufactured reels, yes they were used particularly in the motor and aviation industry and probably in others but the fishing industry was/is very old school ! John Thanks for your reply. Well, I'm not sure what to do next. Perhaps a correctly sized 6 BA but the ones I have are definitely sloppy in the frame when screwed in.

Not done it yet, Sorry about typo, just checked flebay and confirm taps 7/64 x 48tpi still for sale @ $19.90 in Oz. John I just bought that tap, DMB. and I was lucky to find a set of three dies which included the 7/64 WW - 48 tpi. Cab't believe my luck... |

![]() 23 forum posts 34 photos | Thanks for your help and suggestions. I completed the initial task with the 7/64 die and completed the reel repair. Thought you guys might be interested in seeing the results.
You can see the old broken screw head and threaded section and the remade one on the left.
Thanks again
