Hi All, Interesting thread!

Re myHermes, I must speak as I find here.

We send all our EBay items over 2kg using myHermes, their operative Lisa is a delight and we have her number to call if we need an extra pickup and she is in the area.

We send about 10 items or so a week so not a huge amount.

Had 2 loss claims in last year or so, one for £65 and one for over £100, both settled by Hermes inside a week.

We also use UPS via Interparcel for overseas stuff with no problems so far.

Used to use Parcel2Go but ended up threatening court action over £35 lost ltem, took forever to get refunded.

Cheers, Martin

I suspect that this is an instance of the "Quality of Service" actually getting delivered, being very much dependent upon the individual worker, rather than on the system or organisation. If you are lucky enough to be serviced by a great employee - then you experience great service - but if you are unlucky - and get a less-than-excellent employee - then I guess the service you receive will also suck (as our My Hermes does - these latest problems being far from the only cock-ups we have experienced with them over the past few years).

At the risk of raising a firestorm, I witnessed this 'variance' when my very elderly Mum was in hospital for some ten weeks a year or so back. We got to know the nursing staff pretty well, but there was no 'standard of care' evident - it very much depended on who was on duty. Some of the Nursing staff were excellent, very caring and gentle with her - whilst some quite frankly were not. Suffice it to say that we felt it necessary to go in daily (a 60 mile round trip) to make sure that she was actually fed.

Regards,

IanT

Parcel2Go/My Hermes lost a parcel I sent to Brighton. Collected 6/11/17 due for delivery 11/11/17. It was scanned on pickup & has not been since. I spoke to the lady who picked it up from me and she said it was definitely scanned at the depot when she dropped it off, but that scan does not show on the tracking. The items in it were only worth £20 but still an annoyance. I had to refund my Ebay buyer. I tried contacting them via their chat app but that was a nightmare. 7 days after I contacted them and told them it was missing I have still had no contact from them. At this moment in time they will get no more business from me. Why do these parcel delivery firms have no telephone numbers. ?

A timely warning..

We tend to have a lot of delivery's. A few years ago, the wife signed for some tools for me, (yipee), later she "tracked" her expected delivery. It had been delivered and signed for by the wife!!!

The DPD man got her to sign for TWO parcels! Got it sorted by calling the depot and threatening to get the police involved. The missing parcel was just left by the front door..........

We now always check the number of parcels being signed for. Its happened twice since.

Be careful!!

Jim

MyHermes seen to employ multiple delivery drivers in my area. One of them is great, but a few weeks ago I ordered a pair of tinsnips from ebay but they didn't arrive on the expected day. That day my Royal Mail postman told me that he'd seen my parcel in a letterbox in a location 3 miles away (the building has the same name as mine, the converted farm has the same name as mine, but the town location is different as is the last letter of the post code - a pretty unusual set of similarities in the addresses I'd have thought). The postie said he couldn't remove my parcel from the other postbox without the owner's permission (which I consider to be absolutely right) and no one was at home when he rang the bell.

So, I drove over to the other farm, introduced myself to the owner (who was at home by now) and who gave me my parcel. You'd have expected MyHermes to want to know they'd screwed up and although they sent me a nice email telling me my parcel was left somewhere safe there was no immediate way of contacting them to let them know.

Eventually, I went to their website (their telephone system was a complete waste of time) and raised the matter, only to be told "we delivered it to somewhere safe", - completely ignoring the fact that they'd delivered to the wrong location. My response was ignored and so I raised the issue again; again pointing out that they had delivered to entirely the wrong address. Their response was along the lines of "we can't discuss this with you due to data protection issues, as our contract is with the person who sent the parcel and not with you". No apology, no "we'll ensure we look into it and bollock the driver", nothing!

I was appalled. I know the address circumstances are somewhat unusual, but thought they might want to make a note to avoid such confusion in the future.

I'll certainly avoid using them if I have a choice!

Tom

For me, Parcel Force could only improve: I ordered a computer a couple of years ago, and it was shipped by PF. They 'lost' it, despite their tracking system. It took me several weeks of phone calls to get anywhere. Initially I was told to wait for 6 months, and if it still hadn't been delivered, they would 'entertain' a claim. It took letters to their director and threat of legal action before they eventually sent me a cheque for the value of the computer. No offer to pay for calls, time lost, etc. I guess one of their employees 'found' himself a nice laptop - never again.

+1 for Parcelforce and DPD.

Hermes 'delivered' water degradable items by dumping at the drive gate, in the open, with a sheltered porch accessible 3 meters away; no message no knock on door , only discovered by accident just before a heavy shower. Hermes stay in business because there are always people who believe cheap is good. However, "pay peanuts, get ... etc.sad

Always problems in contacting carriers if you are the recipient as legally the contract is with the person or organisation that engaged them to do the delivery. They will do their utmost to make sure that their contact details are always hidden from the recipient. I am at a loss to understand why as recipients we have no legal redress against negligent carriers as we pay for the service that they agree to undertake, I know some will say that if suppliers quote "free delivery" then you aren't paying for it but there is no such thing as free delivery the cost will be loaded on the price you pay, suppliers have to protect their margins so price structures are adjusted to cover this. As consumers we need to press for more rights when things go wrong.

It it's now general 'experiences', and not wishing to take anything away from Arcs excellent service, one of the best I have found personally is the Toolstation / Parcel Force setup. Anything ordered before 7pm is always delivered next day.

Our local My Hermes are superb, for both collection and delivery.

Talking to a DPD driver earlier this week, it seems that there are two DPDs....quite what that's about I have no idea. It could be the proper one with the 'I hour delivery window' is the expensive one, and there is also a cheaper get-it when you get-it system. Has anyone any info?

Spurry, I agree excellent service from Arc with Parcelforce delivering, unlike your experience with Hermes in our area it is a disaster but then if I spoke Dutch, Roumanian, Polish or Albanian maybe I could build a rapport with their drivers and maybe get them to understand where I live.

Had a nightmare with Herpes on several occasions and now won't buy anything unless it's being deleivered by PF or DPD, although as I said, DPD have dropped the quality of service in my area a lot and wouldn't be first choice. I had to make a return to ARC recently as an item I received was not as good as it should have been, it wasn't expensive but ARC quickly refunded my money and the postage I paid to return the item, top service.

I live in difficult to find place down a short untarmaced road. UPS, Parcelfoce, DPD and Amazon all deliver without any problems. MyHermes is a joke 1 out 5 deliveries achieved, it appears the local operative does not want to get their car dirty so makes up stories why they can't deliver. However I have used them to sent items but have checked with recipient if they are happy to use them, less than 50% are. Yodel are not much better. I found a parcel out side my next door's hedge in the rain, totally wrong address which was 3 miles away in next village, not the first time they have dumped and run.
