Thread: 4.70mm #12 G Silver Steel
29/06/2022 08:10:44

Punches of a watchmaker staking tool I have (Boley/Star/Bergeon/Helios) all are 4.7mm diameter, why I don't know but t is not handy if you want to make your own punches. The guide bush for the punches on top of the tool has its bore placed eccentric and a small spring loaded ball to prevent the punchen from sliding down but it would be not to difficult to make one with a 5mm bore. Niko.

Thread: Hardening clock pinions in EN8 steel
06/06/2022 09:08:15

It is obvious but to reduce wear it also important that pinion and wheel are made as accurate matching (diameter/pitch/modul) as possible. Niko.

Apart from buying a hardness tester you can use these to get an indication of the hardness**LINK** Niko.

In the pictures I can see at least one of the clamping studs is missing indicating that installation/lathe set-up is not done properly. A good turning result starts with a good set-up of your lathe, generally called “leveling”. although it is not the correct expression. You can find much information about it on this form since it is a popular topic. Niko.

How can you say that a stud is missing ? Just because a few are missing from the rest of the toolpost does not mean that there are not 3 holding the tool. It is probably behind the toolpost centre bolt. In any case 2 clamping bolts are more than adequate for the size of tool being used which as AndrewD says appears to be in the wrong orientation.

regards

Very sorry for the misunderstanding, only behind a lathe since 1971 and Myford since 1979, therefore will leave it to the UK experts to comment. Niko.

Thread: Looking for a non-magnetic, strong, easily glued material

- Copper & Brass
I also have some copper & brass but of course neither of them are silver in colour.

Perhaps silverplated copper or brass would be OK. Niko.

Thread: Changing my Email client
17/03/2022 20:40:40

I don't like Thunderbird at all, use it only because I cannot find a better program.

It changes font, font size and how mails are sorted randomly, cannot get spelling checker for English and German working, just a few of the most annoying things. No doubt it is me that is the problem but why is there not a program for digital dummies like me. Niko.

Thread: Myford Super 7 gib screws
16/03/2022 18:22:49

They are longer because the later S7 has power cross feed therefore the apron is wider to accommodate the gears for it. Niko.

Not from the UK but these seems the ones you are looking for, Niko. **LINK**

Thread: Myford ML7 feedscrew misalignment

To set the gib strip correctly you remove the bracket and lead screw from the cross slide. Niko.

Thread: How hard is gauge plate?
07/03/2022 11:31:21

Do not know about postage but should be reasonable coming from Germany. "Form A" does have a slightly longer lead but this "form B" should also be OK. Niko.

Thread: New highway code rule.
24/01/2022 13:48:41

Done my driving test almost 50 years ago but never heard of the "Dutch reach" and I am sure 99% of my countrymen also. But if you do not look over your shoulder when opening your car door you will fail your driving test in The Netherlands. Niko.

Here you find links to the Dutch highway (trafic) rules **LINK** , under the heading "Belangrijkste verkeersregels voor fietsers" you find the main rules for cyclist, all in Dutch of course but Google translate will help you. Over 45 years I have driven many miles on UK roads, from the deep south of Cornwall to Orkney in the north. However I will never ever cycle on your roads, far to dangerous. Niko.

Thread: Digital Caliper - again, sorry
09/12/2021 14:41:39

"Or buy a caliper with a high IP rating - I see this Mitutoyo is IP67."

Have that one and use it daily, have not kept track of battery live but it certainly is long, I guess somewhere 2 years.

However I would not buy it again since it has the disadvantage that you cannot zero it to measure differences without the need to re-calibrate again. The other type Mitutoyo 500-181-30 I have is much handier to use. Niko.
