Thread: Burnerd chuck backplate screws |
09/07/2022 16:27:30 |
Alec I think you missed the point made about using HT bolts/setscrews, this is to provide a secure fixing of the chuck to the backplate, better to be safe than sorry. Emgee |
Thread: Access to digital issues |

Just reporting that the new system for Digital Subscribers to view current and back issues of ME magazine are up and running, I can only think it will be the same for the Workshop mag. Took a few phone calls and a couple of emails to get me viewing again but I found the new staff handling my enquiry were understanding and very helpful. Emgee Edited By Emgee on 09/07/2022 11:23:42 |

The only sockets I have found running warm had a loose screw on the connector. Wasn't the old round pin system based on spurs?? Most of the old round pin sockets I remember had split receptors with spring steel closer putting pressure onto the pin of the plug inserted, the pins also had a slot for a part of the pin length, these design features provided better contact than modern 13A plugs offer. Yes to spurs for 5A and 15A 3 pin round sockets. Emgee |
Thread: Can this small motor be reversed? |
04/07/2022 23:25:31 |
Agree with Duncan changing the live from B to A will reverse the motor as per Parvalux. Emgee Edited By Emgee on 04/07/2022 23:25:51 |
Thread: My Casting Blunders and Successes |

PatJ That's a really good achievement to produce all the castings and then complete the machining to what appears to be a very high standard on an attractive looking engine, congratulations. Emgee |

I agree with others about 2 minutes is right for clamping the machine vice to the table if you have a tenon fitted and know it will be accurate enough for most jobs. In place of a tenon my vice has a strip of square material fixed on the front underside to make contact with the ground front face of the bed so it is necessary to hold the strip in contact when fixing down. I am sure it is no easy task to transfer data from other sources and possibly in another format into an existing system. However why close down the working system before proving the transfer of data was successful and the new system is working correctly ? Emgee

Width can be measured by width of pulley. Measure the tooth pitch from centre to centre of the raised parts on the pulley, look on the web for details of type of belt and way to determine length required, usually by number of teeth needed to fit over the pulleys in a working position. Thread: Emco Compact 5 - complete newbie |
13/06/2022 12:51:09 |
Hi Brett If you want to go along the route of making your own backplate to mount non Emco chucks you may find useful copy of the drawing I did for that purpose. Material used was cast iron and the chuck was a Pratt front mounting. You can check the XY co-ordinates for drilling the fixing holes as shown in this video **LINK** Emgee

Thread: Stuart Twin Victoria (Princess Royal) Mill Engine |
13/06/2022 00:24:45 |
This is a model engine backplate with 4 hole fixings that has been turned for a very close fit in the crankcase so to make sure the holes are drilled in the correct place I use an electronic edge finder first and then check with the lever gauge to make sure, if care is used with the edge finder adjustment is usually only .02mm or so. Dont you need separate motors for X,Y & Z axis ? If so perhaps consider using steppers under Arduino or similar control but incorporating limits. Emgee |
Thread: Proxxon Micromot 60 Drill Went BANG!!!! |

In the picture it looks to me that the centre pin is offset from the pos and neg pins so I fail to see how you inserted it the wrong way, unless the dark spot is another socket aperture that needs an insulated peg fitting to prevent incorrect plug insertion. Emgee |

If one did make one's own, what would you use? EN4, EN24? I would use EN8 as have some in stock that would suit, also EN16T but don't think it necessary. Emgee |

Thread: Buried-cable detector |
05/06/2022 20:16:41 |
I believe it will be difficult to buy a device that will reliably detect live or otherwise cables in a stud wall where they will be 60mm deep if in 2"x4" stud, even is a 3" stud the depth will be over what can be detected by any low cost meter. As said by others the cables are likely to be almost vertical above/below electrical equipment but may also be horizontal in such areas where there are multiple outlets at the same height and on the same circuit. Also I think it may have been said another cable zone to avoid is at ceiling level and 400mm below. Emgee |
