I have a Bosch pro table saw that won't run. It has all the soft start and overload electronics and a no volt switch that one expects to find on a modern motor.

The question is , if I bypass the switch and all the electronics and power it up directly should it run ? Will I damage it ?

Better to put a light bulb across the motor feed and see if it lights up when you switch on or buy a cheap multimeter.

Poke and hope with mains can be fun.

If it has a brushed motor as some do then check the brushes are not worn and are free in the holder and contact the commutator. Bypassing the soft start and control gear should not be a problem but if you are not confident with mains power then seek assistance. The fuse may fail with the inrush current but is likely to survive. The startup will be quite brutal compared to the soft start so be prepared.

Check on the motor plate to confirm operating voltage and if AC or DC supply.
Makers spec gives power output as 1.8kW so a direct connection will result in a fair current surge on start-up if connected direct.

Very much depends on the type of motor, brush or induction and your knowledge. If it's induction then do not by pass the condensers, and fit some sort of switch. Good luck. Noel.

I've never come across a soft start single phase squirrel cage motor. Connecting direct to the mains without a lot more information sounds risky to me

.

Edit: __ If so, then it evidently has a brushed motor:
