Thread: MEW 180 |

Posted by Chris Trice on 07/08/2011 13:17:50: I don't think prototyping stuff in the computer, where you can easily alter things and tweak the layout before you start cutting metal, is a bad thing but it is unproven in the real world. I disagree with Chris .... Roundhouse Engineering use this method to design there new 16mm locomotives. Designed, Prototyped and Tested on the computer before cutting any metal.

David... OK ... if I go into 'Super Zoom' (Can only see the top third of the page then I see a "Print this page" Icon
Not the best solution ... but better than nothing.
Thanks |

David, As per email, mine is in the NEW viewer and has no print option.
There should be 4 icons in the top left hand side. (MEW179 had 4)
Print Icon is missing

180 is using the new viewer.
There is a print icon in 179 ... but it is missing in 180 and also it is missing in the latest copy of ME. (All using the new viewer)
This needs sorting out ... these copies are usless without the print option. (Either singler page or article or entire issue) ... if the print option is not put back .. I shall be demanding that I am sent a paper copy. I am not prepared to take my PC/Laptop into the workshop!

I am a digital subscriber ... as of this moment issue 4409 is not available ... so I can't comment. (I don't have a paper copy)
When is 4409 going to be availabe as a digital version? (I feel it should be the day the paper copies are posted (or the day after) .. not after is appears in the shops.
Your subs web page does say --- Access to the latest Model Engineer magazine online as soon as its published. Edited By Steambuff on 29/07/2011 09:26:20 |
Thread: GETTING CNC WORKING |
26/07/2011 15:55:11 |
Philip,
Silly question, but are all the cables and power cables connected? and do you have -
a/ Power to the Mill
b/ Power to the 'Stepper Motor Interface' this is usually powered from a seperate power supply to that of the mill.
c/ Power to any other 'Boxes/Interfaces'
In Mach3 have you assigned the "Emergency Stop" connection correctly - Right Pins and Polaritty? (Input Signals - EStop)
I would expect a twitch when you power the CNC Interface/Stepper Motor Interface on.
Have you tried another printer cable?
Have you connected a printer to the cable and does that work?
Where abouts in the country are you located?

Thread: Problem with digital vernier |
25/07/2011 17:29:15 |
Have you got a spec of dust etc on the 'rails' or a small scratch around the 0.5 point ? I assume another vernier reads the 0.5 slip OK

Also are you using a Laptop or a Desktop PC?
There are issues with parallel ports on Laptops.
Also what version of Windows?

The exchange rate may have collapsed but this will have been cancelled out by the rrise in distribution costs (Fuel etc)
Sea freight is getting slower ... I placed an order in February and March for books from Australia, they took 4 and 3 months to arrive !!!!
At least you should be able to look at the digital ediion as soon as it is released.

Thread: Gas burner |
19/07/2011 16:00:43 |
Yes and No In general a Coal fired Boiler/Firebox could be converted to fire from a Gas Ceramic burner. (In the 16mm NG world - TME do this, they can supply the 3 firing options Coal. Gas or Meths or all 3)
In the 16mm NG world a boiler designed for Internal Gas firing cannot be used for Meths or Coal, firstly it has no firebox .... the usual design is a single tube running through the lower part of the boiler, into which a 'poker' gas burner is inserted.

Thread: Proxxon machine tools |
18/07/2011 11:32:31 |
I have used Proxxon tools and on the whole find them excellent, the build quality is what you would expect from a German Company.
The accurracy is good, better than a 'Far Eastern" unit straight out of the box.
They tend to be on the smaller size, so it depends on what you are going to use them for and which models you are looking at.

My best guess is -- C/L Motion is "Center Line" Motion
5 ° 05 ' is 5 Degrees & 5 Minutes (60 Minutes = 1 Degree)
