Why does it take so long to arrive at the newsagents?

3 forum posts | Ok a quick moan from a new poster but someone who has been buyng ME for some 10 years. I now live in Perth in Western Australia and its taking some 2 months plus for issues to reach here via my newsagent. He has the issues in every 2 weeks on the nail but they are always 2 months late. They arent cheap either and the price hasnt moved despite the collapse in the exchange rate. The main issue is the time lag though. Can anyone shed any light on why it is so slow since sea freight isnt that slow? Ps love the web site its great to see ME finally moving forward with the times. |

Sea freight is getting slower ... I placed an order in February and March for books from Australia, they took 4 and 3 months to arrive !!!!
At least you should be able to look at the digital ediion as soon as it is released.

I subscribe and I am from Australia. Like you I found it odd that it took 2 months to arrive.
Don't be fooled with the free gift that is regularly offered in the constant emails to subscribe as it is only for the UK subscribers.
Even though I have asked why the free gift is only for UK subscribers I have as yet not received an answer.( I will keep asking until I do)
Subscribing is the way to go, (and a bit cheaper with the exchange rate) with a lot of good stuff included.
I also receive the hard copy after about a week or so.
Regards,
Phil |

49 forum posts | G'Day Graeme,
Fully agree with Blister. I've been subscribing for years from Australia and apart from the free gift issue, am very happy with the service. I'd gladly pay the postage on the free gifts David, how about it??

I'll add to the "unrest" from the above overseas posters - I too get E-mails fairly frequently offering a sub plus free gift, but, as we all know "UK only". Very annoying and surely, to post stuff from UK to Switzerland is not much different in cost to posting something from one end of the UK to another - I don't think anyone would expect "high speed" post.
And also like the above gents, I too would happily pay for the extra postage cost - if any.

3 forum posts | Thanks for all the replies. The only reason I haven't taken out a subscription [yet] is the family who run the local newsagent are great. I have thought about the digital edition but I don't think it works on an Ipad which is my primary means of accessing stuff now. It looks like I will have to go down that road though since this delay is driving me mad. The news that Myford has closed down won't hit me in print now until September ! p.s. does anyone know any companies in Perth that supply metal to the Model Engineer ? |

It is if you live in the USA or Canada.
Took me about 18 months to get them to do that.
It is however a Workshop Practice book which is quite light.
We only have a certain budget for subscriptions.
I suppose rest of world gifts are next.
I will try talkinfg to the office again.

![]() 28 forum posts 3 photos | Hi David,
Excellent news. If talking to the office doesn't work try yelling at them. That might not work either but it makes you feel better.
Don't forget about us as it is quite disheartening knowing we are paying the same money to you and not getting all the benefits the others get.
As they say"All or not at all"
Kindest regards,

I appreciate your efforts David but just to be fair, there are "loads" of special offers of all sorts and in all sorts of fields (by no means restricted to just ME/MEW) where the offers are only applicable to the country of origin.
Be nice if you can do something, but if not "OK".

after all that I hope the answer to your initial question is satisfactory, "Just takes time". Pffft great answer David and I noticed you got a shot in about subscribing too. (insert smiley face here). I still have trouble with those!
Keep up the good work David and please don't forget us.

The postal system in the UK is to say the least chaos I find on a good day it takes about a week to deliver a letter and then from someone down the road who says Hi is this your mail!
As for the free gift I asked at the ME ect; stand at an exhibition and was told this was for new subscribers and not for ones renewing .
On a commercial basis this makes sense as it would cost them a bomb to give a freeby to everyone each year, this is a sweetener to encourage people to start subscribing.
Then if it happened you would see the sub's go up at least an extra £2.00 per issue.
Our club the BSMEE which is over 100 years young has ME from issue 1 in its library, and as have been building a Class B1 been borrowing volumes and I have to say the content is today far more varied than it was then.
I agree with the critic who say that adverts should not be in an editorial and if so clearly marked in the header "ADVERT" this is normal practise and indicates that it is NOT an editorial reccomendation.
So David keep up the good work

As to the gift, what we lose in the gift we make up for by not having to live in England.........(wait for it!)

137 forum posts 3 photos | David , can I point out that if you give free gifts to all the colonials you may have to reduce the value of the free gifts we in the mother country receive.
Talking of the free gifts can we assume that this year a putter will be included with the set of clubs or if we chose the sports car , at least three months road tax. As you know I'm not one to cause trouble and complain, but please be aware some of us are pensioners and can ill-afford laying out for a new putter every year. Thank-you in anticipation. |

I am in Melbourne, Australia, the best place here. Not at all like all of the other best places in the world.
I have updated my profile, thanks for your suggestion.
