Thread: What are the best quality needle files? |
27/05/2022 05:32:16 |
I too have found Vallorbe the best quality needle files. The oldest one I have is several decades old and still cut well. Thor |

I would use a 2-flute cutter (slot drill), have you tried a 4mm? Might save a bit more material. I have usually farmed out such jobs to a Milling, Turning & Welding shop near me. Thor |

Welcome to the forum. I have an old 290 lathe - different paintwork to yours I guess - that has served me well for over a decade. Thor Edited By Thor 🇳🇴 on 25/05/2022 09:53:38 |

Hi Jonathan, Is there a saddle clamp? If so make sure you don't remove too much material. If you remove the wiper, is there still play? Thor

Thread: This trolley/cart could be useful |

That trolley would have been useful when I moved my lathe into my workshop, don't think I have much need for it now though. Thor |

Hi Rob, Congratulations with you new lathe. The taperlock chucks you mention, is that what many call Camlock? Thor |
Thread: threading delrin - alternative method |
16/05/2022 14:40:08 |
Hi Steven, I assume you place the cutting tool upside down and cut while rotating in reverse? A starting groove is a good idea. Rotating the chuck manually should work, many make a handle to put in the lathe mandrel, one example here (for ML10). Thor

Thread: Very small metric thread size |

Hi Ron, As Jason says, most likely M1.4, in the past I have sourced such screws from my Optician. There is a table here, showing Metric Coarse and Fine thread data. Thor |
Thread: Wyvern crankshaft question |
14/05/2022 15:39:19 |
I have made built up crankshafts using anaerobic glue and pins. My pins could be pushed in by hand so I didn't groove the pins, the crankshaft is still working 2 years later. I have also made built up crankshafts that I have silver soldered (brazed) together, I machined the crankshaft after soldering and pickling. Thor |
Thread: MES Kennet Tool and Cutter Grinder |

Nice toolgrinder. An ER collet block could hold milling cutters for sharpening the end. Thor |
Thread: Drill bit storage |
12/05/2022 16:59:47 |
Hi Andy, I use boxes that can hold one size of each, something like this, I also have another that is hanging on the wall besides my mill/drill. The spare drills I have are of small diameter and are in plastic tubes or similar and go into rooms in one of the drawers. There is also racks like these, for holding boxes with drills. Thor
